Our beloved husband, father, grandfather & great-grandfather James Alexander Boyd went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 21, 2007 in Lynnwood, Washington, of natural causes.
James, a native of the state of Montana, where he lived most of his life, was born in Culbertson, MT on September 27, 1917 to William A. & Meta Boyd.Jimmy as he was commonly called, was reared on the Boyd Ranch, located seven miles west of Culbertson, MT on the Big Muddy Creek, the home of his grandparents, James A. & Jenny Boyd.In 1943, James voluntarily enlisted in the military, entering into service on May 21, 1943, Seattle, Washington, and was assigned to the 159th Infantry, qualifying as a sharp shooter, a marksman with a carbine MI rifle. On October 18, 1943, James was shipped overseas to battles and campaigns such as, Northern France Air Offensive Europe, Normandy Rhineland. During this time, PFC James A. Boyd became a recipient of such decorations as the Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, for faithful service during the European African Middle Eastern Affairs. On July 14, 1945, PFC James Boyd was honorably discharged from the military service, and was awarded a certificate as a testimonial of hone'st and faithful service to his country, given at Fort Lewis, Washington, by Charles B. Ely, Lieutenant Colonel Infantry.
After the war years, James followed his career in breaking horses and doing ranch work. Being raised around stock all his life he, soon entertained the thought of entering amateur rodeo. James entered the riding academy at Sioux Falls, South Dakota for a year and a half, then moved to Marysville, Washington and lived with his parents, Mr. & Mrs. William A. Boyd. The professionals of Big Name Stock in the Northwest soon recognized his fine horsemanship. James then entered the Pro Rodeo Circuit in which he rode for Christian Brothers stock, Max Woods stock and others. As an all-around cowboy, he entered such events as bare back and saddle bronc riding, calf roping, bull dogging and bull riding. In his later years, James worked for the Fort Peck Tribes TERO Office as a liaison officer for many years.
James was preceded in death by his parents William A & Meta Boyd, sisters Emma Hammond, Maude Hollow, grandparents James & Hanna Olson and grandparents James A. & Jenny Boyd, a son Gary Boyd, a niece Sonja Hollow, a granddaughter CeeCee Jack, grandsons Donald Wayne Whitright and Joseph O. Boyd.
He is survived by his wife Geri Boyd of Lynnwood, WA; sons; Wayne (Dolly) Boyd of Poplar, MT; Boyd (Karen) Turner of New Zealand; James Boyd of Miles City, MT; daughters; Bonnie Nelson & Myrna Boyd of Wolf Point, MT; Gloria (Norman) Hall of Tacoma, WA; Nina Trask of California; Linda Swearingen of Seattle, Washington; Connie Kountz of Miles City, MT; Step daughters; Sandy (Rodney) Lee of Miles City, MT and Lindee Bighorn of California, and numerous grand children, and great-grandchildren.
James was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a good friend to all, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. You are safely home with your parents, son, and grandsons, no more pain and sorrow.

Visitation will be Monday, July 30 at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel with a Family service at 7 p.m. His funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at First Assembly of God in Wolf Point. Interment will follow at Poplar City Cemetery.
