James Olaf “Jim” Howard passed away unexpectedly on February 25, 2016 at the age of 63.
Jim was born August 15, 1953 in Sheridan, Wyoming the fourth child of Robert Lee and Ingeborg Ernestine (Kelly) Howard. He attended country school at Otter Creek School until moving into Miles City in 1967, finishing elementary school in Broadus. He graduated from Custer County High School in 1972. He started working at Fort Keogh in 1975, working there until retiring in 2007.
Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping immensely. He was a lifetime member of the Range Riders as well as a member of Sons of Norway and the Sons of the American Legion. He also attended the United Church of Christ/Congregational Church for many years.
Jim was preceded in death by his father Robert. He is survived by his mother Ingeborg Howard of Miles City, MT; his siblings: Jerry of Glendive, MT; Rose (Tootie) Moats of West Virginia; Doris (Roy) Holloway of Wisconsin and Ralph (Bev) of Miles City. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and his two special friends, hunting and fishing buddies Mike and Gary.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Marcy 4, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Range Riders Museum Memorial Hall. Interment will be held at a later date. My nephew once told my mother that he knew why Jim was called Big Jim. Why my mother asked? Because he is BIG answered my nephew. My mother replied maybe so, but I believe it is because of his BIG Heart.

I met Him when I worked at Ft. Keogh during the summers just out of high school. We had allot of fun. I called him lucky dog and it stuck. Will miss seeing Jim. He was always good to visit with.
