James “Jim” Lloyd Welch, age 77, went to join his daughter Crystal, Saturday, October 9, 2021. He was born April 29, 1944 in Billings, Montana to Jack and Alice Welch. He grew up west of Hysham. Jim is survived by his wife Vicky, son Jason (Heather) Welch, sister Judy (Larry) Vanluchene, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
Jim served in the army from 1961 to 1967. Following his enlistment he returned to Hysham where he met and married his wife Vicky Shick, together they had two children Crystal Zent and Jason Welch. He was also a volunteer for Treasure County where he served as fire chief for 33 years and a loyal member of the ambulance crew for 27 years. Jim was a Proud Grandfather to 7 Grandchildren, Whitnie (Ryan) Moseman, Brooke (Wade) Mitchell, Matt Zent, Payton Zent, Jameison (Ashleigh) Welch, Kniles Thomsen, Avery Welch, and 6 Great Grandchildren. Jim was known for his incredible talent in detailed woodworking. He created Papa Jim’s Workshop, where he created many great memorable pieces of art. We will remember him for his love for his family, community, and country.
