James Jim Robert Hunter, Sr., age 63, of Miles City passed away at the Holy Rosary Heath Care in Miles City on August 6, 2010.
Jim was born on July 20, 1947 in Whittier, California, the son of Lyle and Jean (Traynor) Hunter. He grew up and attended schools in Bakersfield, California where he graduated from high school. He attended college at Bakersfield Junior College where he received an Associate Correctional Administration Degree. He then attended Cal State in Bakersfield where he received B.S. in Sociology. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1967 where he was an aircraft control and warning officer. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1970. Jim married Glinda South on September 5, 1969 in Miles City, Montana. Jim worked at a variety of jobs including Kern County Juvenile Hall, as a probation officer in Kern County, and he had a thirty one year career with the Pine Hills Correction Facility. In October of 1991, Jim was the Director of Care and Custody at Pine Hills and in September of 2001 became Superintendent.
Jim is survived by his wife, Glinda Hunter of Miles City, MT; his children: Terri E. (Randy) Anderson of Miles City, MT; and James R. (Denise) Hunter, Jr. of Miles City, MT; two brothers, Glenn Hunter of Bakersfield, CA and Eileen Sheets of Parachute, CO; and six grandchildren: Jessica, Heather, Jared and Alise Anderson and Cody and Carson Hunter. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Military graveside services will be held on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 10:00 am at the Eastern Montana Veterans Cemetery in Miles City with full military honors provided by the VFW Post #1579. A celebration of Life gathering will be held from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City on Tuesday, August 10, 2010.
