James Rath, age 66, of Terry passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2009 at Holy Rosary Intensive Care after a fall that caused a head injury. He was injured badly by a bull on the ranch in 2001and at the same time fought a long battle with a rare liver disease and had many complications following his transplant in 2007.
James was born in Miles City, Montana on May 6, 1943, the son of Robert and Laura (Bieber) Rath. He attended grade school in Terry and graduated from Prairie County High School in 1961. Following his schooling, he remained on the familyranch where he ranched and farmed his entire life. His favorite job on the ranch was putting up hay for the cattle he loved. He married Claudia Meidinger in 1966.
Jim's grandkids were the light of his life. He loved attending their sports activities, tho poor health kept him from getting to many events.
Highlights of his life were fishing in Alaska with his friend Gary and going to several pro-football games in Minnesota. As an avid Nascar fan, he was able to attend some races with his friend, Nick. Jim also loved collecting cars and steins.
Jim is survived by his wife, Claudia of Terry, MT; two daughters: Nadine Johnson of Billings, MT and Stacie Rath of San Juan Capistrano, CA; two grandchildren: Michaela Johnson and Dylan Johnson of Billings. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Terry. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 31, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church in Terry. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Prairie County Cemetery in Terry.
