Mass of Christian Burial: will be at 10 AM Monday, April 12, 2010 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church

Interment: will follow at Poplar City Cemetery

James Bernard Reid, age 68, of Poplar, MT, passed away on April 8, 2010 at his home in Poplar, MT.

James was born on May 3, 1941 to Thomas Patrick Reid and Lauretta Marguerite (Geisen) Reid in Glasgow, MT. He attended Poplar Schools in Poplar, MT, where he received his High School Diploma in 1959. In 1959, James enlisted in the United States Air Force. He attended Basic Training on the Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, afterward he attended Technical Training on the Sheppard Air Force Base also in Texas. Upon completion, he was assigned to the 706th Strategic Missile Wing on the Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, WY. He served with distinction and commendation and worked in Radio Guidance on the Atlas D Missile. James received an Honorable Discharge in 1963.

James met Ken Reilly in 1960, when Ken started him as a window man with the new McDonalds restaurant in Cheyenne, WY. He went on to open one of the first McDonalds restaurants on the west coast in 1964, which is located in Eugene, OR.James met Bette Jean Scott in 1968; they were later married on November 29, 1968. To this union a son, Wilbur Paul, and a daughter, Shawn Marie, were born.

In 1971, James graduated with a degree in Animal Science at Montana State University in Bozeman. Later in that same year he went north to take a job at the "Cow Camp" working for Russell Scott, north of Frazer. James and family returned to the Reid family ranch north of Poplar in 1973. James was a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar, the Eugene Jaycees, served on the Roosevelt County Fair Board for 24 years, and was an active member of the Republican Club having served as chairman at one time. He enjoyed horses, Black Angus cattle, telling the History of Poplar, and playing cribbage and whist. He also enjoyed teaching his grandchildren, telling stories, and visiting with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years of Poplar; son, Wilbur (Erica) Reid of Poplar; daughter, Shawn (Kevin) Kenelty of Poplar; nine grandchildren, Kate, Garrett, Lindsay, Dylan, CeCe, Jack and Evyn Reid, Brooklyn and James Kenelty; three sisters, Marcia (Jerry) O Brien of Longmont, CO, Karen (Reid) Miller of Great Falls, MT, and Cherry Dougherty of Seattle, WA; three sisters-in-law, Janet Reid of Brooks, Alberta, CA, Thale (Don) Arthun of Absarokee, MT, and Judy Reid of Sidney, MT; two brothers-in-law, Tom Scott of Billings, MT, and Fred (Pam) Scott of Billings, MT; twenty-three nieces and nephews, Michelle, Tim, Maureen, Lee, Tom, Donna, Karen, Tom, John, James, Andrew, Wayne, Kevin, Amy, James, Meghan, Jenny, Scott, Jay, Lieveke, Dione, Scott, and David; and an aunt, Beverly Nielsen of Kingsville, TX.James is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Lauretta Reid; two brothers, Wallace and Richard Reid; a brother-in-law, James Dougherty:

A Vigil will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar, MT at 6 PM on Sunday, April 11, 2010. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 AM Monday, April 12, 2010 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Francis Schreiber as celebrant with Pastor Cal Oraw assisting. Interment will follow at Poplar City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the Reid family at www.stevensonandsons.com. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
