James Tallwhiteman, “Taa’eveameohtse” meaning Nightwalker, also known as Jimmy Jams, age 50, passed away unexpectedly on August 27, 2021.
James was born on May 4, 1971 to Arthur Longjaw Marshall, Sr. and Elsie Whitehawk in Billings, Montana. At six months old James was adopted by Eva Tallwhiteman and Christopher Shavehead. James grew up in Lame Deer, Montana attending school in both Lame Deer and St. Labre and eventually obtained his GED at Kicking Horse Job Corp. James later received his Associated Degree in Arts and Sciences at United Tribes Technical College in North Dakota.
James was loved by many people and in turn loved his nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He often found himself babysitting, and willingly cared for Davinia Osife, Aliana Hogan, George Highwalking, Tammy Jo and Tashawn Lone Wolf and Josiah and D’Allen Marshall. James was often seen walking around town with a stroller, baby carrier or a special bicycle he bought complete with a baby seat.
James was well loved by many people and would go visit his relatives and was often visited by them in turn. You could find him training, getting ready for his many marathons. He enjoyed telling jokes, although sometimes only he thought they were funny, we all laughed with him.
Among James’ many accomplishments he enjoyed grass dancing and creating grass dance outfits. He completed the Fort Robinson Breakout run many times. He enjoyed being a Head start teacher and wildland firefighter in his early years.
James was predeceased in death by his parents, brother Victor Killsontop, sister Wendy Killsontop, grandmother Alice, brothers Arthur Marshall Jr. and Anthony Marshall, and sister Opalita Marshall. Also sisters Hilda, Corinne, Gail, Edwina Tallwhiteman and brother Roy Tallwhiteman. Niece Taylonna Walksnice, Minerva Limpy and nephews Jeremy Limpy, Gaylen Lamewoman, Vine Tallwhiteman, and cousin Jennifer Seminole, Kevin and Daryl Whiteman whom he spoke of often. Grandson Allen Oldman.
He is survived by his oldest sister Arlene Marshall, and half- sister Ursula “Jolene” Khron and brothers Russell Tallwhiteman, Melvin and Davis Woundedeye. Sisters Joyce, Imelda. Aunts and uncles Leonard, Lamona, Susie Wilsey, cousins Joetta and Mary Bearcomesout, Tina and Angeline Bearcomesout. Nieces Casey, Ana, Christina, April, Wendy, Brandi, Paulette, Veronica, Alyse, Ember, Eva Cerise, Sharla, Shar-rae, Sharon, Kyra, Destiny. Nephews Bryce Killsontop, Tristan, Nick, Tyrell, Tim Jr., Ernest “EJ”, Rusty, Tony, Frank, Michael, Kaden, Riley, Rycen, Roy Jr., Bryce Lonewolf. Grandchildren: America, Davinia, Teralius, Aliana, Miranda, Angeles, George, Mason, Joseph III, Dantrell, Peyton, Maisie, Landyn, Jae’lyas, Braelyn, J’Allen, Laraya, Kanye, Callie, Molly, O’Shea, Noreen, Luke Montague Jr., Josiah, Marlene, D’Allen, O’Shon, Rajoh, Drejon, Tashown, Taezha, Tammy Jo, Travis Jr., Titan, Rocklyn, Mike Jr., Shayla, Jalea, Jason jr., Mitchell Highwalker, Stormy Starvingbear, Grant Starvingbear, Josiah Newholy, Burton, Devin Tallwhiteman. Special cousin and mentor Goldstein Littleagle, Damion Killsback, special friend, Ron Harris.
Also included are numerous relations of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe of which he was so proud to be a member of. Those families are Long Jaw, Whitehawk, Bearcomesout, Walksalong, Bearchum, Killsontop, Ryan, Woundedeye, Tallwhiteman, Medicineflying, Little Oldman, Fightingbear, American Horse, Limpy, and Lamewoman of those that can be recalled. James had a large family we apologize if we forgot anybody.
