James “Jim” Williams age 77 of Jordan and Cohagen passed away October 6, 2021 at the Garfield County Health Center in Jordan. He was born March 11, 1944, at Kirksville Missouri the son of Carroll and Blanche (Stewart) Williams.
Jim’s early life was spent in rural Missouri with lots of his family in rural areas where he worked with them. School was really never meant for Jim and at the age of 8 he decided to leave home. When his father caught him he asked, “where are you going “Bud”?” Jim had just read, “The Green Grass of Wyoming” and told his dad “I’m going to Wyoming to be a cowboy.” Later he brought his family west and did just that.
He joined the Air Force at the age of 17, spending time in San Antonio, Texas, California and Michigan. While in the Air Force his job was loading nuclear warheads on B52 Bombers. He met his wife while they were in high school and waited until she graduated and were later married and moved to California where he continued his time in the military.
He worked for the State Hwy department in Missouri following his father and grandfather in that job. He also operated a sawmill in Missouri and then in 1977 moved his family to Wyoming where he ranched until 1980, moving to Garfield County and raising his family until the time of his death.
Jim truly loved the ranch life with his cattle, roping, fishing with his family. Hunting was also very dear to him along with his partner in crime Ed Brooks.
He is survived by his wife Carol of Jordan; Three sons Michael (Diane) Williams of Cohagen MT, Tony (Mikki Jo) Williams of Miles City, Daniel (Patty) of Klamath Falls Oregon; One daughter Sandi Kay (Benny) Gavin of Billings Mt; Two granddaughters Anita and Kelly; and one sister Barbara Pipes.
Preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Lester and Leroy; and his oldest son Todd Williams.

Carol & kids…so very sorry to hear this news and my heart reaches out to each of you. I know life was really hard for Carol & Jim the last few years, that pain is gone with Jim residing with Jesus now. Carol, I hope you can rest a bit now. May the wonderful memories of Jim, his smile, his humor and his compassion for his friends..his love of ranch life & livestock…the list goes on and on, may all of what he was, keep his memory close and bring you peace. I am so thankful I had you all in my life when we first met when you worked for Witts and all the years after that. I’m thinking he’s finding a fishing hole right now in heaven. You were and are steady friends, You are loved!
We will try to be there with you at his services…we do have hunters in camp that day, but maybe they will fill their tags early. If I cannot be with you, my thoughts and prayers will be with you!

Carol and family
We have so many memories of the time on the ranch! Gathering cattle and Carol bringing out fried egg sandwiches that tasted so good halfway through the morning. Jim and Tom working together and just knowing what had to be done and just doing it. I’ll bet he and Jim Horn are settled at a table somewhere in Heaven having cookies and a cup of black coffee, and solving all the worlds problems, also bragging about the kids and how proud they were of their families. Having your family on the ranch made having ours grow up here too that much better.
I know you will all miss Jim, I’m glad you will all be able to support each other through this hard time. Just know we are praying for all of you!
Tom, Nancy Horn and our family.
Jan Hopson says
Carol and family, I’m so sorry for your loss. Jim was such a sweet guy, always laughing, always kind. He will be missed! We drove through Cheyenne, WY in Sept on our way home from the Black Hills and enjoying the wide open spaces out there I thought of Jim and could see why he loved it so much. I hope your family finds peace and comfort from your memories of Jim as well as the love and support from your family and friends. Love you, Jan and Lois
