Janet Vassau, age 85, of Forsyth passed away on November 15, 2022, at the Rosebud Health Care Center. She was born on July 18, 1937, to Fred and Alma Holmes in Forsyth, Montana.
Janet grew up in Rosebud where she was a 4-H club member and graduated from Rosebud High School. She later received her nurses training at the Community Memorial Hospital in Butte, Montana. In 1980 she started work as a nurse at the Rosebud Community Hospital and later retired in 2000.
She met and married Joe Vassau on November 19, 1959. To this union they had three children: Howard, Arnold, and Joe. Janet was the perfect ranch wife; she always had a home cooked meal ready.
Janet is survived by her sons: Howard, Arnold (Leah), Joe (Bobbi); brother, Dean (Rosie) Holmes; Grandson, Wesley (Raylene); Granddaughter, Chasmine (Ray); and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred, and Alma Holmes; brother, Ernest Holmes

Both your dad and Janet were dear friends of ours for many years.We kept in touch after leaving Forsyth and when Brett was little, she babysat him when I worked at the beauty salon. Joe and Dave had many good years together, as well. I used to cut the boys and Joe’s hair. Janet was a sweet and kind lady and when we would get back to Forsyth over holiday’s spent with Dave’s family, we would go out to the ranch and visit the Vassaus.
