Janice (Jan) Marcelle Bauer, 79, of Forsyth, Montana, passed away on August 16th, 2023. Jan was born March 1st, 1944, to Walter and Esther Dean while they were stationed in Jacksonville, Florida, during WWII. They returned to Forsyth where Jan attended school, graduating from Forsyth High School in 1962. She went on to University of Oregon to study nursing. Jan completed her degree in 1966 and after graduation decided to take her first nursing job at San Francisco Children’s Hospital. Before leaving for California, she spent that summer in Forsyth and met her husband Max. He moved to San Francisco one year later and the two married in June of 1968. Jan and Max went on to have four children Victoria (Tori), Mathew (Mat), Salena (Sally), and Elizabeth (Beth).
Jan was active in all her children’s school activities and lives. Jan almost never missed any of children’s events, always attending games, concerts, tournaments, and Girl Scouts. If there wasn’t a child’s activity to attend, she would spend that time refinishing furniture and collecting antiques. These passions led her to curating her own antique shop. Jan also built beautiful dollhouses. All of these houses were perfectly finished with proper decorations, furniture and functional electrical wiring with lighting. She built four houses which to years to finish. Jan was a talented pianist and took great pleasure in being part of a local two pianos, eight hands group. Jan was an active member of the Forsyth Garden Club. Gardening was a gift she loved. She spent many hours cultivating her summer flowers.
Jan is survived by her husband, Max, and their children: Tori Koch (husband Brent, and sons Jackson, Nicholas, and Brendan, and daughter Cammie), Mat Bauer (wife Jessica, and sons Wesley and Dean, and daughter Matas), Sally Bauer (daughter Hazel), and Beth Wiome (husband Jonathan, and daughters Audie and Kensey).

Dean family, I am sure sorry to hear that Jan is gone. There are a lot of years of memories here. When we were little Esther would bring me some of Janny’s hand-me-downs and I was excited to get them and so proud to wear them! She always had time for a chat in later years, often in the garden section of a store. I hope that each of you has many good memories of her.

Max and kids,
I am so sorry to learn of Jan’s passing. We had some great times together at the Speedway and Howdy. She refinished many beautiful pieces of furniture for me and I will treasure them even more. Keep the memories close. Cherish the joy she brought with her beautiful flowers and garden veggies. Hope some of you inherited that.

We are saddened to learn of Jan’s passing and our hearts go out to Max, kids, and grandkids. She was the most wonderful neighbor and so good to our kids and to Bentley boy. She was talented beyond measure in baking, canning, gardening and so much more! The best part of our house was having Jan and Max sharing their beautiful yard….they were so patient when the kids sports games stretched across the line or a ball would roll into a flower garden. I loved our daily visits in the summers when I was home, she beamed with happiness when her kids and grandkids came home to visit. Kyle and I cannot be there in person due to work conflicts, but send our love and deepest sympathies to all.
