Jay RedWoman WolfBlack was affectionately known as “Snoopy”, a childhood nickname where he was known to snoop around in people’s refrigerators. Jay was born on May 6, 1965 to Rosalie Clubfoot and the late Jerald RedWoman. Jay had 3 sisters and one brother. He had many fond memories of his Grandpa Jack Rabbit who he spent most of his time with growing up.
He later was moved to a foster home with the Schultz Family in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He eventually moved back home but still had a wonderful relationship with his foster family and both continued to love and cherish each other for years to come. He attended St. Labre where he would graduate in 1983. During his highschool years, he was a trumpet player as well as the school mascot while being involved in sports.
Jay met the love of his life, Christine Medicine Bull, at a benefit dance fundraiser for Veterans. They continued to love each other for 37 marvelous years. Through thick and thin they were always seen laughing and joking with each other. Laughter was the true marker of their friendship and love.
From this marriage, Jay and Christine were blessed with Landon, Elsie, Jackie, and Christian, who they loved with all their hearts. Jay shared many life lessons with his children and his love of music, especially jazz. He encouraged them to try and learn new things and was proud of each child.
Such as Christian learning to ride a skateboard, which he still loves doing to this day. Jay’s main lesson was being a kind and generous friend to all.
Jay was a very friendly and knowledgeable person to anyone who was willing to listen and learn. He was very well versed in Northern Cheyenne history, practices, and stories. Aside from being a spiritual man, Jay was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Lakers fan. He was a good sport about the teasing of his teams from relatives while wholeheartedly cheering them on. He often would watch basketball games with his late dog, Nelly, while secretly sharing snacks. When he wasn’t watching his teams, he was watching one of his many favorite movies such as Blazing Saddles or Top Gun. Jay’s favorite food was Mexican and his favorite restaurant was a food truck that sold enchiladas in Lame Deer.
Jay peacefully passed away at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Billings, Montana, on November 11, 2023. Thank you to the doctors and nurses at St. Vincents who did their absolute best for his care while he was staying there. And deepest gratitude to Jay’s family and friends who offered companionship, care, and love to him throughout his life. Jay wanted to let his cousins, nieces, and nephews know that he loved them a great deal and to all his grandchildren who will continue to hold a special place in his heart. And a very special thank you to Bob and Nemo for the bond that they shared.

Christine & Family,
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Jay. It was our pleasure to be able to serve him through Powder River Co Transit. We looked forward to his great sense of humor and his wonderful caring personality as he shared and told many stories of his culture and history or just of life in general.
