Jean Lockwood Hafla, age 88, of Miles City passed away on Monday, December 18, 2017 at the Powder River Manor in Broadus with her family.
Jean was born on December 6, 1929 in Miles City, Montana, the daughter of Lyle and Elizabeth (Garr) Lockwood. She grew up and attended grade school at Coalwood School. She attended Custer County District High School where she graduated in 1947. Jean married Wallace A. “Buddy” Wood on July 31, 1949 and to this union two children were born, Rodney and Penny. Buddy passed away April 9, 1968. She worked as a telephone operator for three years at Mountain Bell, worked at a loan company for five years, Miles City Clinic for fourteen years and started working at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in 1986, retiring in 1999. Jean married John Hafla on October 28, 1999 in Forsyth, Montana. He passed away in 2015.
Jean loved sweet treats and there was usually some close by. She had a standing appointment every week to get her hair done. Jean enjoyed camping and fishing with John. They hosted many card parties over the years. Her true love was her family, especially her grandsons and later her great granddaughters, always attending their sports events when able. She always had a photo in her purse (which never left her arm) to show them off.
Jean is survived by her son Rodney Wood of Cody, WY; her daughter Penny (Donnie) Fullenwider of Gillette, WY; three grandsons: Brandon (Ashley) Fullenwider of Gillette, WY; Kellen (Randee) Fullenwider of Gilbert, AZ; and Justin Fullenwider of Bozeman, MT; two great granddaughters Haevyn and Hudysnn; a brother Sonny Lockwood of Volborg, MT; a special niece Lila Jo Young of Gillette, WY and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Joyce Riley and a brother “Little Buddy.”

Rodney and Penny Rae,
My condolences in your mother’s passing. She was such a wonderful, spirited lady. She had a good sense of humor and I loved joking with her. Her eyes just sparkled when she laughed. She had Grandpa Lyle’s sense of humor and Grandma Liz’s great “never looked her age” genes. I will miss her greatly!

We always enjoyed our visits with John and Jean. Our children were spoiled rotten each time we visited. Heaven has gained such a beautiful person and now she can be with John again.

My memories of Jean were only of her always smiling. She was such a positive, loving person. It is so difficult when a parent/grandparent passes away, leaving such an ache in our hearts. My deepest sympathy to Jean’s family.
