Leona Jean (Lockie) Muri passed away peacefully on July 27, 2020, at the age of 93, surrounded by family.
Jean was born on March 14, 1927 to Dan and Blanche (Hawley) Lockie in Miles City, MT. She was raised on the Lockie family ranch at Sheffield, MT. Jean went to elementary school at Calabar and later attended and graduated from Rosebud High School. Jean married Robert Muri on December 8th, 1945. Theirs was the second marriage of three Lockie sisters to wed three Muri brothers. From this union were three children, Donnie (Del) Muri, Lonnie (Hal) Ross, and Rob (Gaye) Muri. Jean and Bob ranched at Cartersville, MT until 1963 when they partnered with Dan Lockie in the Moon Creek Ranch. Jean and Bob lived at Moon Creek until 1976 when they purchased and moved to the Tongue River place with their son Rob. Later, they retired to Miles City but Jean continued to work part time jobs, so as not to get “bored.” She especially enjoyed working as a desk clerk at the Super 8 Hotel because she “got to meet so many interesting people!” Jean loved following her grand and great grand children’s adventures! She was their best teacher and greatest fan. Her life was devoted to them and revolved around seeing to each and every one of their needs. We would be remiss not to acknowledge her fond memories and love of all their neighbors on Tongue River, who became like family to her and Bob. Many shenanigans were had, whether it be cards, tupperware, ceramics parties, or just floating the river – entertainment was never lacking.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Blanche and Dan; her husband, Bob; brothers, Donnie and Wallace Lockie; sisters, Lorraine (Andy) Muri and Dannie (Al) Muri; son, Donnie Muri; daughter-in-law, Gaye Muri; and great grandson, Orin Muri.
Jean is survived by: her daughter-in-law, Del (Wolfe) Muri and her daughters, Lori (Rod Stein) Torstenbo, Shawn Torstenbo and their sons, Shyler and Conner; Jodi (Josh) Woosley and their sons Lane (Tayl’r) and Trever. Her daughter Lonnie (Hal) Ross and their children, Chad Ross; Robyn (Greg) Ste.Marie and children Bailey and Spencer.
Her son Rob (Gaye) Muri and their children, Dax (Beth) Muri and daughter, Tailey; Darin Muri. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Al “Buck” Muri, and four sisters-in-law, Joyce Muri, Marie “Toots” (Muri) Ansom, Anita Muri, and Helen Lockie, as well as, many, many nieces and nephews.

Lonnie, Rob, Del (Don) and all family:
We are so sorry to learn of Jean’s passing. The Muri and Carranco families have been long time friends going back to the Rosebud years. Quite a few years with Benges too, but in MC. Parents and siblings were contemporaries, we were contemporaries and classmates of their children, and our kids were also. Jean was the perfect example of all that, very gracious and kind. She will be missed. Best wishes to all.

I just realized she is the lady I talked to at Super 8 while delivering pizza. Such a sweet lady. I had the pleasure of meeting her at Eagles Manor where I worked for some crazy guy LOL We went down stairs and played UNO with a few others. Best time and so hilarious since there were all women but one man. They loved to mess with him. Condolences to all of the family, I know this year has been hard on all of you. Special hugs and prayers for Bob that I had the pleasure to meet nearly 14 years now, (birth certificate) love to tease him on this. RIP PRETTY LADY!!!! I know the Manor misses you, God has you now.

Mike Riley says
She was one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever known. I was just a waif, and she made me feel like part of the family. I will never forget her frying sage grouse at the Moon Creek place, and every time I make a peanut butter sandwich, I think of the first one I ever ate that she made with peaches. I can still see her smile and hear her laugh. A more representative heart of Miles City country’s generous and kind character you will not find.
