Jeanne W. Holst, age 87, of Miles City, formerly of Olive, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2009 at the Holy Rosary Health Center in Miles City.
Jeanne was born on January 22, 1922 in Spearfish, South Dakota, the daughter of Frederick Lee and Vera Emma (Woods) Mace. She attended first and second grade in Spearfish, SD and then went to Ranch Creek Country School near her home. Jeanne attended 9th grade at Grandville, North Dakota. She then went to Broadus for a year and then on to Laurel, Montana where she graduated from high school. Jeanne married Chet Holst on October 19, 1939 in Miles City, Montana. They lived in Plentywood for a short time before moving to Fort Peck where they worked on the dam. Chet and Jeanne moved to Tacoma, Washington and they both worked in the shipyards during the war before returning to Miles City in 1946. They moved to Olive, Montana in 1956 where she was postmaster until 1982. Chet and Jeanne moved to Miles City in 1982 and Chet passed away in 1987.
Jeanne was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Broadus holding many offices within the church, Rebecca Lodge, 4-H Leader of the Mizpah Club, Council of Aging in Miles City and Broadus, Miles City Reading Grama program, and school bus driver in Broadus. She loved longstitch needle point. She received a certificate for the 1000 Points of Life presidential recognition of local volunteers. She has visited her granddaughter Penny in Australia three times and Hawaii on the way back on one of her trips.
Jeanne is survived by two sons, Lance Holst of Glendive, MT and his family: Chance, Reece, and Zack and Ashley, Cohen; Larry (Marinell) Holst of Fargo, ND and his family: Katie and Kevin Kuisle, Hannah and Emma;Anne and Adam Collins, Avery; three daughters: Pat (Bart) Blum of Chamberlain, SD and their family: Mary Pat and Kenny Fawcett, Lane and McKenzie, Penny and Paul Gill, Ryan, Lacken and Samantha; Mona (Gary) Johnson of Forsyth, MT and their daughter Barb; and Nancy (Roy) Badger of Casper, WY and their family: Sandy and Eric Swenson, Drew and Erica; a brother, Ray Mace of Brookings, OR; five sisters: Peg (Ray) Jerrell of Miles City, MT; Katherine (Doug) Flint of Miles City, MT; Frances (Joel) Mason of Sahara Vista, AZ; Patsy Magnesen of Lincoln, OH; and Vera (Charles) Carter of Broadus; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Chet; a brother, Dan Mace and a sister, Mary Ann Irion.
Visitation will begin on Sunday, September 20, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 21, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Custer County Cemetery.
