On May 31, 2012, Jeanne Mae LaBree passed away at the Rosebud County Nursing Home, in Forsyth, Montana. She joined her siblings, Vonnie Colgrove, Slivers Strom, and Arley Strom.
Jeanne was born in Miles City, Montana on July 31, 1933, to Clara (Tranholt) and Casper Strom. Jeanne says her mother washed clothes, made lunch, and had her at home before her dad came home at noon. Jeanne and Frank were married September 7, 1952. They worked at numerous ranches in Garfield and Rosebud Counties. While living in Forsyth Jeanne loved working for the Rosebud Conservation District. Their dreams were fulfilled when they were able to purchase the Hagen Ranch north of Ingomar on the Big Porcupine.
In addition to helping with ranch work and raising her girls, Jeanne loved music, dancing, playing the accordion and the piano. She was also was very artistic and enjoyed drawing and painting, and was enthusiastic about helping with high school floats, costumes and other creative projects.
Jeanne is survived by her husband, five daughters, eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren: Julie and George Stephens and their children LaBree and McQuade; Lori and Donnie Finnicum and their children Robyn, Quintan, Tyson and Lauren; Lisa and Terry Patterson, and their daughters, Haylee and Hannah; Frankye and Scott Chandler, and their children Amy, Sondra and Matthew; and Jodi and Ben Rounce.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Your mother was a wonderful lady.

Jeanne and I worked in the same government building. She was so much fun to work with and so talented. I loved her stories about driving to the ranch out north. My favorite was the time she used the car floor mats to put under the tires to try to get out of that northside “gumbo”! My thoughts and prayers are with you. It was a pleasure and an honor to know Jeanne…she was one of the best. By the way, she got herself “unstuck” and was at work Monday morning.

Julie and Family,
Your Mother was such a sweet and loving lady.
It will be the little things
that you will remember,
the quiet moments,
the smiles, the laughter.
And although it may seem
hard right now,
it will be the memories
of these little things
that help to push
away the pain
and bring the smiles
back again.
With Loving Memories
I will be keeping you my prayers for the days and weeks ahead.
Love,
Karie

Your Mom’s smile would light up a room. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. It is never easy to say goodbye to a Mother. May you find comfort in knowing she is free at last – to dance, to laugh, and will await each of you on the other side.

This is the first story of many “us girls” are documenting: My mother HATED mice. She was known for jumping up on kitchen chairs at the mere mention of a mouse. She would do this even is we had company. When we lived at the Davis place north of Jordan she got me up in late evening to help her catch a mouse. I remember trying different tactics and then we built a ramp to the slop bucket (no running water to the house). Somehow we actually got that mouse to run along the side of the wall and up the board ramp and into the bucket of water. I was probably 5 years old and I remember how excited she was that we actually captured (drowned) the mouse. Lori must have slept through it all because I don’t remember her with us.

I remember when Mother and I would drive to Miles City Or Billings. It was always fun because we would get a donut or something sweet to go. We got to have alone time which I cherished. One time we were at the Rimrock Mall and Dad happened to be along they told me to go get the car while they grabbed some ice cream. Well by the time I found the car the ice cream was melting all over. I think they had to start eating mine.
I often remember her smile, she had a great smile and I know she had a great kind heart.

To this day I still think of Mother when I brush my teeth… I drove them to Helena for Arlee’s funeral and she had forgotten to pack toothpaste so I gave her mine. It was the healthy baking soda kind and after a couple of brushes she turned and looked at me with this horrifying look! It really did taste bad.
