Jennie S. Nelson, age 92, of Miles City passed away on November 21, 2003 at the Holy Rosary Health Center Extended Care in Miles City, MT.
Jennie was born on August 29, 1911 in Chimney Rock, Montana to John and Josephine (Vessel) Spek. In 1914, the family moved to Absher, Montana where her parents ranched and made their home until their death in the 1950s. The ranch remains in her family and is owned and operated by Jennies son and grandson.
She was married to Elmer O. Nelson for 52 years. Most of their lives were spent in Montana. After their children were raised they spent 21 years in Utah and New Mexico where Elmer was employed by Kaiser Steel Mining Company. Elmer retired and they moved back to Roundup. In 1998, Jennie moved to Miles City to be near her son and daughter- in-law.
Jennie was a member of SNPJ (Slovenska Narodna Podporna Jednota) Lodge #114 in Roundup, Montana for 72 years.
She is survived by her son Don (Eleanor) Nelson of Miles City and daughter Beverly (Dale) Hougardy of Kent, Washington, four granddaughters, Pamela Dost, Lisa Halstead, Paula Howe and Sheila Gunstone, one grandson Keith Nelson, 10 great grandsons Tyler and Aaron Dost, Ian and Sean Halstead, Aaron and Nick Nelson, Ryan and Kyle Howe and Daniel and Shane Gunstone, three sisters; Mary of Billings, Alice of Roundup, Agnes of Grass Range, and sister in law, Doris of Billings, and Ruby of Fromberg.
Jennie was preceded in death by her husband Elmer in 1986, four brothers, John, Jack, Tony and Ed and one sister Frances.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2003 in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 24, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Roundup. Interment will follow in the Roundup Cemetery.
