Interment: will follow in the Custer County Cemetery in Miles City.
Jerome Jerry Viall, age 75, of Miles City, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Monday, May 4th, 2009 after a valiant year-long battle with cancer.
Jerry was born in Jordan, MT on October 16, 1933, the son of Howard L. and Myrl (Porter) Viall. His family moved to Kinsey in 1941 where he attended elementary school. Jerry went to Custer County High School in Miles City where he graduated in 1952. Following graduation, he began farming at Kinsey alongside his father and brother Brownie.On March 30, 1958 Jerry and Verna Widman were married in Glendive, MT. They had just celebrated their 51st anniversary this past March. They made their family home in Kinsey and were blessed with three children; Jeanette in 1958, Kay Lynn in 1960 and son Art in 1964.
Jerry loved to be surrounded by his family and friends. During his retirement he enjoyed fishing, boating with his grandchildren and golfing, (especially with his AARP Golf Buddies). Every winter, Jerry and Verna spent several happy months traveling in their RV to Arizona. Jerry was active in the community serving on several committees and boards. To name a few; Kinsey School Board, CCDHS School Board, Kinsey Irrigation Board, Elks Lodge #539, Range Riders, Kinsey Association of Christian Churches and Presbyterian Church. He also was involved with the Town and Country Club, Meals on Wheels, Toastmasters, and the Half Century Club.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife Verna of Miles City, his daughters Jeanette (Bruce) Rogge of Carmel, CA, Kay Lynn (Ed) Griebel of Rawlins, WY and son Art (LeAnne) Viall of Kinsey; two sisters, Jeannine (Art) Hammer of Petersburg, AK; Shirley Thomas of Anaconda, MT and one brother, Dallas (Shirley) of Whidbey Island, WA., sister-in-law; Bonnie Viall, eight grandchildren Hailey, Morgan, Hannah and Ethan Rogge, Adrianne Griebel and Lena, Molly and Sam Viall and numerous nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Hollis and Brownie Viall and brother-in-law Bob Thomas.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2009 with the family to receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 8, 2009 at 10:30 pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Custer County Cemetery in Miles City.
