A Funeral Mass: Saturday, December 13, 2003 at 10:00 AM in the St. Labre Catholic Church in Ashland
Jesse G. Bement, age 78 of Ashland, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2003 in his home surrounded by his family after a short, courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on March 14, 1923 in Missoula, MT the son of Chauncy & Emma (Burns) Bement. He grew up in the Lame Deer area and attended school at St. Labre Mission. Most of his childhood years were spent with his grandparents, James & Julia Burns, and also with Grandma B.
Jesse worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs Roads Department for 17 years and for Bechtel Construction in Colstrip. He then went to work at St. Labre where he dedicated 43 years of his life. He was employed there until illness prevented him from working.
Jesse was united in marriage to Eldora Spotted Wolf on October 10, 1943 at St. Labre Mission. Together, they made their home in the Lame Deer area and later moved to Ashland. To this union, six children were born.
Jesse enjoyed feeding his longhorn cows, farming, and spending time in his garage. He was always doing something to keep busy. He especially enjoyed his job as a Security Officer where he spent the majority of his time, as well as having his part time co-pilot, Eldora, with him.
He is survived by his wife Eldora, three sons Robert (Delores), Jimmy (Annie), George (Georgia) Bement all of Ashland, one daughter Darlene (Jerry) Small of Kirby. They also raised a special grandson, Clayton (Anita) Small of Busby. Jesse is also survived by two sisters Jackie Bement of Lame Deer and Camille Duffy of Billings, one brother Carl Bement of Lame Deer, 14 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, one brother, and one sister.
A funeral mass will be on Saturday, December 13, 2003 at 10:00 AM in the St. Labre Catholic Church in Ashland. Visitation will be on Friday, December 12, 2003 from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM in the Chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Forsyth. At Jesses request there will not be a wake service and cremation will take place after the funeral mass on Saturday. The Bement family would like to express sincere appreciation to Dr. Purcell, Deaconess Medical Staff, Horizon Hospice Home Staff, Northern Cheyenne Board of Health, and Northern Cheyenne Ambulance Department, your services were very much appreciated.
