In Memory Of

Jim Hagemeister, age 73, of Kinsey.

June 28, 1951 – November 18, 2024

James Lee Hagemeister (Jim), age 73, of Kinsey, Montana, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Monday, November 18, 2024.

Jim was born on June 28, 1951, in Dickinson, North Dakota, the first son of Donald and Norma Hagemeister. He grew up in Reeder, ND, and Kinsey, MT, attending grade school in both communities. He graduated from Sacred Heart School in Miles City, MT, in 1969.

On August 1, 1972, Jim married Sheila Beauchot, and together they started their life on the farm. They lived in Scranton, ND, during the summer months where Jim farmed his grandfather’s land, and in the winter, he returned to Kinsey to trap. In 1974, Jim and Sheila began farming full-time in Kinsey, where they continued until his passing. Farming was Jim’s true passion, and he also enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing, and flying.

A neighbor once remarked that “if you find Jim out in the field passed out, just pour a little diesel on him and he’ll start right up.” Jim had a way of making light of difficult situations and was always known for his humor. One of his favorite sayings when the kids were younger was, “What do you guys think, I’m running a rest home here?”

Jim will be remembered for his love of family, his work ethic, and his quick wit. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.

Jim is survived by his wife, Sheila; three sons, Patrick (Lorretta), Cory (Klista Roberts), and Donny, all of Miles City, MT; and two brothers, Robert (Deb) of Kinsey, MT, and Jack (Diana) of Moscow, ID. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Linda Stokes (Danny), Jo Ann Gresens (Ira) of Miles City, MT, and Cindy Grieder (Curt) of Santa Ana, CA. Jim was the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren and great-grandfather of eight. Jim also leaves behind his adopted son, Drew Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Norma Hagemeister; his brother, Marty Hagemeister, in 2018; and his sister-in-law, Kathy Casillas, of California.

Family will receive friends from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at The Parlor, 1806 Main St., Miles City.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jim’s name to Holy Rosary Hospice- Miles City, 2600 Wilson St. Miles City, MT 59301. We are thankful for all their help, love, and kindness they showed our family.

    Sheila and sons . . .
I’m SO sorry you have lost Jim. Jim and Sheila have an amazing story!! . . . ending a bit early. I have a memory of coming to Jim and Sheila’s to experience feeding baby lambs when I was in high school. It was a blast, but a bit muddy. We took our shoes off inside the door at the house, and when Jim came in, he said, “Whose skis are those?!” (I have always had big feet.) Great memories. God bless and comfort each of you.
