In Memory Of
Jo Ann Martin
“GMA JO SEWS”
October 1, 1953 – March 11, 2024
On Monday morning March 11, 2024, Jo Martin passed away peacefully at home among family and loved ones. Jo had been battling many illnesses for the past several months. She was 70 years old.
Jo was born in Terell, Texas at 6:30 PM on October 1, 1953, she was the eldest daughter of Preston Leon Pritchett and Peggy Iona Pritchett. Jo became a Montana resident in 2001 and has resided in Forsyth for the past 17 years.
Jo’s passion from a very young age was sewing. She spent many years teaching community children, setting up booths at local fairs and even doing lessons from home. While living in the south prior to becoming a Montana resident Jo was know for her seamstress work doing beautiful replicas of historical clothing. Jo did not need a pattern. If you could show her a picture, she would figure out a way to make it. Her talent was indescribable. To those of us who knew Jo well it was inevitable that you learned some of the basics because she never let you leave her home without some type sewing knowledge.
As an adult in life Jo learned to love motorcycles and developed a passion for riding. She would often reminisce about embarrassing her daughter by showing up to school to pick her in full leathers on her bike. Jo continued riding until health issues intervened.
After moving to Montana Jo became an avid quilter making beautiful quilts for home, friends, and family. She was involved in quilting club and enjoyed trips with them during this time. Another of Jo’s favorite pastimes was attending faith-based retreats. She loved our Heavenly Father and had complete faith in Him. In fact, one of her favorite quilts was “Jesus in the Garden” which she did completely free hand.
Jo loved children, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her joy. She loved spending time with them, baking, sewing, and cooking. She loved to laugh and teach them about life. She would share stories that taught them wisdom and others that didn’t but that was okay because she was just Gma Jo to them and they loved her.
Jo is preceded in death by her husband Bobby Martin, parents Preston Prichett and Peggy Lakin, siblings Bruce Pritchett, Robert Throckmorton, and Daral Throckmorton. Nephews Sean Morrisey and Timothy Throckmorton.
