Joan C. Hagadone, 64, passed away with her family by her side on Thursday, May 27th, 2010, at home in Townsend, MT. She fought a courageous battle with scleroderma for the past 23 years. The disease never dampened her spirit while living life to the fullest.
She was born on August 16th, 1945 in Glasgow, MT to David Charles and Lorraine Edwards. She grew up in Wolf Point, MT where she attended the local schools. She spent many weekends, summers and holidays with aunts, uncles and cousins in the Wolf Point and Poplar area.She married Jack Hagen in 1962, and moved to the family farm south of Poplar, she had a daughter, Kim and a son, Mark. On March 20th, 1982 she married her best friend and love of her life, Allen Hagadone in Poplar. On August 13th, 1984, her son Jason was born. She lived and worked in Poplar at the American Legion Club, Poplar Hospital and for Murphy Oil Corporation until 1996, when her disease required her to quit working. She was very active in her community where she served on the Poplar City Council, Poplar School Board, Poplar Centennial Committee, Community Garden Club, and St. Johns Lutheran Church Council.
She was a leader in the community helping to organize fundraising and social events. After moving to Townsend she continued her active role in the community. She joined the Bulldog Booster Club and worked part time at the Copy Cup, where she enjoyed visiting and meeting the people of Townsend while enjoying a good cup of coffee. She was involved in Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church serving as the council secretary.Joan enjoyed shopping, golfing, tending to her flowers, cooking, baking, fine dining, traveling and entertaining friends and family. She really enjoyed meeting new people and made friends easily. There was always a smile, a great sense of humor, and she was never afraid to speak her mind if it was something that she believed in. There was great joy in following Jasons high school and college sporting events, there wasnt a game that she missed. She was especially happy when all of her children were home for the holidays or to celebrate special occasions.
She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Ray Sherlock, her close aunts and uncles; Arley and Mayme Strom, Bob and Helen Rusche, Walt and Eva Johnson, and Bob (Sonny) Birkland.
Survivors include her husband, Allen Hagadone of Townsend, daughter, Kim Hagen,(Dave Archambeau) of Fall City, WA, son, Mark Hagen (Lori) of Burley, ID, son, Jason Hagadone of Billings, MT, close cousin, Jan Davis (Howard) of Helena, MT, 4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, brother-in laws, and sister-in laws.
A family will receive friends during visitation on Thursday, June 3rd, from 5 7 pm at Anderson, Stevenson and Wilke Funeral Home, 650 Logan St., Helena, MT. Funeral service will be held Friday, June 4th, 10:30 am, at Trailhead Christian Fellowship Church in Townsend, MT.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a memorial in Joans memory be sent to the Scleroderma Foundation, Attn: Donations, 300 Rosewood Drive, Ste. 105, Danvers, MA 01923 or online to www.scleroderma.org. In August of 1999, Joan and her family moved to Townsend to be closer to her aunt Mayme Strom, for whom she was the caregiver.
