In Memory Of

JoAnn Stanton age 65, of Jordan

June 26, 1953 – January 2, 2019

JoAnn Rachel Stanton, age 65 of Jordan, Montana passed away on January 2, 2019 at her home.

JoAnn Rachel White was born on June 26, 1953 in Jordan to Ray & Nadine (Umland) Watson. She joined brother Jim White and was later joined by sisters Mary Pat and Paula Rae.

After high school (and on her 18th birthday) JoAnn was wed to Irl Kelsie Stanton in Jordan, MT. Together they had six children; Wayne, Patricia, Melissa, Kelsey, Angie and Darial. Irl and JoAnn ran the Conoco for a period of time in 1971. JoAnn started working at the Garfield County Courthouse in 1972, this started her on a 50 year adventure working off and on at the courthouse. She held a number of positions while at the courthouse; she was the County Superintendent of Schools, Assistant Clerk and Recorder, County Clerk and Recorder and most recently Deputy Clerk and Recorder under good friend Janet Sherer. JoAnn retired for a short time in 2000 and worked at the Ranchers Bar for a few years. JoAnn returned to work at the courthouse in October 2004 after the passing of her husband Irl.

JoAnn enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking and being a card shark. She spent a lot of time traveling around the state for various football, basketball, volleyball, and track meets for the kids and grandkids. JoAnn did enjoy a totty after work where she could sit and visit with her friends and family at the Ranchers Bar. Mom enjoyed getting the family together for birthdays and holidays. She would cook a feast as there were always extra kids stopping by. She was famous for her taco salad, lasagna and apple butter.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband Irl, daughter Patricia, brother Roland Watson, Mother Nadine Watson, Grandma Anna Umland, nephew James White, in-laws Glenn & Jessie Stanton and Uncle Tiny Umland.

JoAnn is survived by one son; Wayne (Krissy) Stanton of Jordan, MT; four daughters; Melissa (Rick) Kibler of Billings, MT, Kelsey Stanton and fiancé Cal Phipps of Jordan, MT, Angie (Richard) Murnion of Jordan, MT and Darial Stanton and fiancé John Killgore of Billings MT. Father Ray Watson of Jordan, MT; one brother Jim White of Miles City, MT; two sisters; Mary Pat Watson of Jordan, MT and Paula Rae (Eric) Keeler of Idaho. Brothers in law Doug (Darla) Stanton & Delbert (Lynn) Stanton both of Jordan, MT and sister in law Linda Estes of Lewistown, MT.; Grandsons: Trent & Ty Stanton, Eric Kibler, Ryan Reynolds, Harrison Ross, Boyce Phipps, & Kage & Keagen Murnion; Granddaughters: Tawney Stanton, Boston Reynolds & Kelsie Murnion; as well as numerous nieces and nephew; along with her very good friend Clara McWilliams.

Memorials can be sent to the Garfield County Health Center.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 from 1-6 p.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Jordan. Wayne, Melissa, Kelsey, Angie, and Darial
I am deeply saddened by the loss of your amazing mother. As a cousin and next door neighbor I was often times one of the extra kids that stopped by. The good news is that she and Irl are once again together and unfortunately they are surrounded by a lot of family. Let me know if there is anything I can do. Love you guys

When JoAnn was dating Irl, we lived a couple houses away.
There was a popular TV Show at the time, called Love American Style.
Well one night Irl brought JoAnn home from a date and Paula and I were spying from the lilac bushes.
He was giving her a smooch good night under the porch light.
Well, we couldn’t wait to tell our parents we caught them kissing, “American Style.”
JoAnn laughed with me about it when I worked in Jordan in ’06. Many great memories!
Blessings Mary Pat and Paula Rae and all her family.
    Sorry for your loss.

I remember when I fist met JoAnn. It was a major occasion for us both – First Grade with Mrs. Patterson in the old Grade School building. The walk through the door and up the steps and straight into the room at the top of the stairs … another major step of many in life!

JoAnn was cute, a nice smile, and somewhat small. Looking back, I realize we were close to the same height…short… compared to Kathy S. and Nancy F. It is hard to believe SO many years have pasted. I feel fortunate I was able to see and get to visit with JoAnn for a few minutes at our last class reunion.

My hope is that all of your good memories help sustain you through your loss now as well as in the future. It helps me and may be of some comfort to you, to imagine the Joy when JoAnn, Irl and other family members and friends get to see each other again …. imagine those reunions!!! Sending hugs. Connie

Our thoughts and prayers are with each and everyone of you. We only got to be around and get to know your mother when we met in Las Vegas . It was like we had known her for years she became special to me the short time we got to spend together. Your dad and Bill were stationed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth. He would make trips back to our home town Kings Mountain, NC. Everyone fell in love with him. In fact he would go when We couldn’t and stay with friends or Bill’s mother. I always loved cooking for him because I know he enjoyed every bite. They both will be truly missed. We still have pictures of all you kids that was sent each year. Love Bill and Diane Stewart
