Joey South, age 91, Jordan, MT passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2005 at the Garfield County Health Center after a battle with Cancer.
Joey was born on the 9th of August, 1914 in an old log house West of Peru, Nebraska. Joey went to school until the 7th grade, then started working at age 12 for $.50 a day in Nebraska for area farmers and ranchers. In 1930, he worked for a carnival running a merry-go-round. Joey married Margaret Hardenburger on September 5, 1935. After they were married, Joey went to work for the railroad. In 1944, Joey and his brother owned and operated a mechanic shop in Miles City. Joey later went to work for the R.E.A. Electric Company running power lines south of Miles City. In 1953, the family moved out to Pumpkin Creek near Volborg, Montana. In 1962, the family moved to Jordan, Montana where Joey started his own electrical company. In 1970, they moved to Red Lodge and then to Bridger where he retired. In 2000, Joey moved back to Jordan to be near his son and daughter-in-law. Joey and Margaret had 70 wonderful years together before God called Joey home.
Joey had a love for music, making some records and playing on the Miles City Radio. He built guitars and furniture and also enjoyed painting pictures. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends who are left with many fond memories of Joey.
Joey is survived by his wife, Margaret South of Jordan, MT; sons: Jim (Kelly) South of Bridger, MT; Ken (Kathy) South of Jordan, MT; Dan (Ruth) South of Jordan, MT; daughters: Shirley (Gary) White of Boise, ID; Georgia Schmidt of Jordan, MT; Ginger (Arnie) Weber of Boise, ID; 30 grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren, 21 great-great grandchildren; 2 brothers, and lots of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, three sisters, 2 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and 1 son-in-law.
