John Benedict Ebert was born, May 17th 1952, in Helena, MT. As an infant he was adopted by Alfred and Rosemary Ebert. He was a precious and treasured member of the family. Being the only grandchild of Dick and Mary Gotz and the only nephew of his Uncle Bob, who never married, he was very loved and doted on.
John received most of his education at Sacred Heart Elementary School in Miles City. He also attended the University of Wyoming in Laramie for a short time.
As an adult John lived in Billings, Montana before moving back to Miles City, MT, to be close to his mom. In Miles City he worked at the Trails Inn and Walmart. John’s true passion was carpentry and construction. He loved the idea of creating and building things.
John was a kind man with a giving heart. He was known to many as the “Candy Man”. He always had good candy to share with anyone he came across. He was also a social person who enjoyed a competitive game of pool. However, he was housebound in his later years, which was very hard on him.
John is survived by some loving friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Rosemary Ebert, his grandparents Dick and Mary Gotz, and his Uncle Bob.
John has been a familiar face around Miles City, where he will be laid to rest.

I will miss my cookie customer. Over the years John visited the farmers market almost every weekend. We always enjoyed seeing him. Rest in peace John

So sad….John had been a friend to my mom for years, n my favorite memories(aside from him being a genuine, selfless, sweet, honest human), was when mom n her lady friends, n sometimes me…would be in the Trails Inn for coffee in the mornings n John would bring us various treats! Pretty sure we had gotten some of Bernadette’s cookies!! Always cookies or candy for the girls!! Rest easy handsome man!! You’re loved..
Danette Olguin says
Oh our sweet little John will truly be missed! We was so selfless and truly the nicest man I have ever known. We called him our “Candyman” as he would never come in without bringing cakes, cookies, muffins or some kind of candy for me. I know God has his arms wrapped around him and he is now with his Mom and good friends that have passed on before him. RIP my friend I will miss you 😢
John Stevens says
Rest in Peace my high school friend. You were always there when we had time to just hang around. You picked me up every morning and drove me to school. Thank you for helping me through the teenage angst of those years. We had some really good times and I’m smiling as I remember 👍

John was a good neighbor and person, always sharing candy. Hard to believe he’s passed.
Nancy Fillafer says
So sorry for the loss. John was a pretty cool guy. He always had the butterscotch candy to pass one to me. May you rest in peace now. You’re up there passing candy now to all. God bless you John.

So sad to hear that John passed away. He was so sweet and the way he took care of his Mother was what every Mother would hope for. I worked with John many years ago and he never forgot anyone, and like everyone knows, he was definitely the Candyman. Rest in Peace John.
Joy Peters says
Was so nice to see memories of my cousin Johnny Ebert. He certainly was good & kind to his Mother Rosemary.
After leaving the Miles City area in the late 70’s, I lost touch with he & Rosemary over the years. But fond memories of their kindness & gentleness.
Thank you everyone for your kindness for him.
Jim Peters says
Johnny was my Cousin. When we were very young, he and his Parents would come to our place near Birney, Montana to visit. We enjoyed many good times playing among the sand rocks and along the Tongue River. Many years later he and his Mother Rosemary were very kind to my Mother Stella Peters who lived in Miles City during her elder years. Rest in Peace Cousin Johnny Ebert.
