John Barnard Barney Murnion,age 93, of Jordan passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at the Garfield County Nursing Home in Jordan.
Barnard was born on October 8, 1917, the eldest son of seven children born to Alma (Howe) and John Joe Murnion. He was the first of a long line of Murnions born in the United States. Barney graduated from Garfield County High School in 1935. Barnard worked with his father until he married Loriene Buffington on October 6, 1943. For the first year of marriage their home was a sheep wagon. They then moved to Vail Creek where their six children were born. One daughter Kay Rene (Jim) Whiteside, five sons: John (Pat), Willie (Linda), Terry (Deanna), Pat (Cathy) and Rex (Lori). Barney enjoyed visiting and had a wonderful memory for historical facts and remembered the name of everyone he met. The door was always open and the coffee pot on. He was generous to anyone in need, be it his time, help or a piece of iron for repairs.
He is survived by one brother Phillip (Cynthia) Murnion, one sister Kathline (Tom) Fowler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Clarke, James and Coleman; one sister Mary Johnson; two grandsons: Luke Murnion and Kent Whiteside and a great grandson Trent Schreiber. He is survived by his wife and children; twenty one grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 12, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Jordan. A Rosary and Vigil service will be held on Sunday, December 12th at 7:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jordan. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Jordan. Rite of Committal will be held in the family lot of the Pioneer Cemetery. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of the arrangements. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Garfield County Ambulance Service.
