John Laverne Baugatz age 72 of Miles City, passed away on the early morning of March 20, 2016 at St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings, MT after a short battle with cancer.
John was born on August 29, 1943 in Miles City, MT to the late August & Mary Belle (Allen) Baugatz. John grew up in Miles City with his parents and five sisters. John went to school in Miles City up to the 7th grade when he dropped out to start his working career. He stated working as a garbage man for Miles City Sanitation until he joined the National Guard in August of 1962. He served in the National Guard until December of 1965. John met the love of his life Louise Brush in 1963 and remained married for 53 years. To this marriage they had four children: John Jr. (1964); Lee (1968); Brenda (1971) and Kim (1973). John had many jobs over the years including working for Miles City Sanitation, Brush Trucking, John Lantis, Miles City Landfill for Jerry Meidinger and his last job with Pacific Steel of Miles City when he retired in 2001.
John enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Especially telling stories about what he had done in his life like fishing, gardening and spending time with grandkids who he loved dearly.
John was preceded in death by his father August and mother Mary Belle; his five sisters: Viola Stemochuck, Dorothy (Art) Kochel, Emma (Ralph) Bartch, Alice (Alan) Brown and Martha Baugatz.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Louise of Miles City; his four children: John Jr. (Paulette) Baugatz of Miles City; Lee (Kathy) of Rapid City, SD, Brenda Baugatz of Miles City and Kim (Holly) Baugatz of Miles City; his grandchildren: Monique (Cody) Wentzel, Bradley Baugatz, Melinda Baugatz and her fiancé Bryan Langston, Derek Baugatz, Brody Baugatz, Seth Baugatz, Liam Baugatz and Jaycee Peltzer; and his great grandchildren: Tobin, Madison and Jayden.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at both Holy Rosary Hospital and St. Vincent Healthcare for their love and care. A special thanks to their dear friend Sherry Stoltz for providing the food for the luncheon. Memorials may be made in John’s honor to the family to help defray funeral expenses.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 with the family receiving friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City followed by a luncheon at the V.F.W.
