John Edward Boyd, age 78, of Colstrip, Montana, formerly of Venice, Florida, passed away, with family by his side, on the evening of March 15, 2016 at Rosebud Health Care Center Nursing Home in Forsyth, Montana.
John, the oldest child of three, was born to Eimer and Thelma Boyd on April 25, 1937, in Northfork, West Virginia. As a child, he attended Elkhorn United Methodist Church and was baptized there. He graduated Northfork Elkhorn High School before joining the Air Force in 1955. While serving in the military, in Shreveport, Louisiana, he played the Bass Fiddle in the Sonny James Band. He attended Roanoke Business College where he studied accounting and he also studied psychology at Miami University in Athens, Ohio. He worked for the Public Assistance Office in Welch, WV and then he became a store auditor for the Kroger company. He then formed his own auditing business where he worked for many years. Later on in life, he took classes to become a CNA and worked in the home health profession. After his divorce from Linda Sue Boyd in 1994, he was remarried to Joan Carol Grace Williams Boyd. They shared eight years of their life together before he was widowed. Soon after that, Linda Sue Boyd, the mother of his three children, reentered his life again and had resided with him until his death.
John liked music of all kinds. He played a variety of instruments and was extremely gifted in the trumpet. He played cello in the Bluefield Symphony Orchestra, and he enjoyed playing the organ at home and singing with friends. Many years ago, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge where he served as a clown. He put smiles on many faces, young and old. He coached basketball and softball. He loved the beaches of Florida and loved searching for shark teeth and seashells along the shore. He enjoyed watching WWE wrestling, fishing, and he could eat more chocolate in a week than any of us could eat in a month. He loved all kinds of animals and especially his dog…little Cheyenne.
He was preceded in death by his mother Thelma, his father Eimer, and his brother Randall. John is survived by his brother: Robert (Charlotte) Boyd, The mother of his children: Linda Sue Boyd, Children: Debbie vonArx, Keli (Dean) Smith, and John Thomas Boyd, Grandchildren: Kristin Gilbert, Kayla (Walter) Kroschel, Marlo (Joe) Pegram, Megan (Patrick) Rogers, Molly Reed, and Hannah La’Jon Boyd.
