John Covarrubias

Visitation: Friday, March 7, 2008 from 10:00 to 5:00pm at Stevenson and Sons.

Vigil/ Rosary: Friday, March 7 at 7:00pm in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church

Funeral Service: Saturday, March 8 11:00 am in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church

Burial: will follow in the Forsyth Cemetery

John Julian Covarrubias, age 85, of Rosebud MT passed away at his home on March 5, 2008.

Mr. Covarrubias was born on January 9, 1923 in Tampico, Mexico to Juan and Eulalia Covarrubias. He moved to the United States when he was a baby and later became a naturalized citizen.In 1923 he came to the Hysham area with his family where his parents worked on farms. He attended grade school in Hysham and graduated from high school in Rosebud.On April 5, 1944 he and Vivian Martinek were united in marriage in Miles City. After his marriage he farmed with his parents for a few years until he and Vivian moved to the Cartersville area to run their own farm until he retired at the age of 77 years old.After retirement John stayed active cutting wood for his family and friends.His big passion was sports, such as local football and basketball and he also enjoyed boxing on television. He enjoyed classical music and made sure that his daughters also enjoyed music and knew how to play piano. In addition John enjoyed dancing and spending time with his family. He was a very devoted grandfather.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers Leo and Frank Covarrubias.He is survived by his wife Vivian of the family home; daughters Anita (Joe) Buckalew, Cheryl (Howard) Ruppel and Teresa (Kirk) Montgomery; brother Paul Covarrubias; sisters Mary Ruffatto, Consie (Bob) Kelly, Connie (Bob) Ratzel, Socorro (Jack) Steele and Sister Consuelo as well as 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
