John Doughty, age 92, of Gillette, Wyoming, died on Sunday, September 28, 2003 at the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Gillette.
Graveside services will take place at Cory Cemetery in Cedaredge, Colorado at a later date. StevensonWilson Funeral Home of Gillette is entrusted with the arrangements.
John Samuel Doughty was born in Storden, Minnesota on October 12, 1910 the son of Shirley and Ethel (Quin) Doughty. He attended schools in Minnesota, South Dakota, and California, before moving back to White, South Dakota where he graduated high school. John came to Gillette to work on the railroad before making his way to Colorado where he worked at various jobs. On June 14, 1933 John married Josephine Estes in Eckert, Colorado. They moved to California where John worked as a cement finisher.
John and his family then moved to White, South Dakota so that he could help his father on the family farm. In 1960 John moved to Rapid City, South Dakota where he worked for Pete Lein and Sons until his retirement. John and Josephine then moved to Grand Junction, Colorado to enjoy their retirement. John and his wife moved to Gillette, Wyoming in 1992 to be close to their daughter. Josephine died in 1995. John continued to live in Gillette independently until becoming a resident of the Pioneer Manor in August of 2003.
John was a member of the Masonic Lodge for fifty-three years. He had a great passion for fly fishing and was especially proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Throughout his life, John enjoyed bowling, traveling, hunting, golfing, and raising pigeons. Those who knew John will miss his sense of humor.
Mr. Doughty is survived by his three children: Shirlie Dike of Manchester, Washington, John E. Doughty and his wife, Arlene, of Portland, Oregon, and Charlene Peper of Gillette, Wyoming; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and one great -great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother, Ike Doughty; and one sister, Bernice Johnson.
