John E. Bud Balder

Funeral Services: Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point

Interment: Greenwood Cemetery in Wolf Point

John Edmond Balder (Bud), age 94, of Wolf Point, Montana passed away Sunday, November 25, 2007 at Faith Lutheran Home in Wolf Point.

Bud was born to John and Edith Balder on June 21, 1913 at their homestead shack on the UP Ranch south of the river in northern McCone County. Bud, as everyone called him, was liked by everyone that knew him. He attended country schools. In the thirties he hopped on a freight, went to North Dakota and found work shocking oats so that he could give money to his mother. He returned from there and went to work at Fort Peck Dam working in the tunnels. In the middle thirties he returned to the farm to help his dad with farming, mining coal, raising sheep and raising registered Herford cattle. Bud loved having his bull sales and was a member of the Herford Association. He was also a lifetime member of the Elks.Bud met the love of his life, Velma Sheehan at an old country school dance. They were married June 10, 1940 in Sidney, Montana. In 1999 they sold the farm and retired to Wolf Point. Bud loved to fish, spend time at their cabin in Fort Peck, and going salmon fishing in the fall at Columbia Falls, Montana. He was Grand Marshal of the Wolf Point Stampede in 2005.

Bud is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bob Balder, his sisters Helen Steffy and Pearl Boysun; niece Beverly Doornek and nephew Earl Babcock.

Bud is survived by his wife, Velma of 67 years; his sister in-law Marie Balder; six nieces, Phyllis Peters, Joyce Smith, Penny Clayton, Judy Page, Cheryl Sievers and Darlene Rosaaen; two nephews Grant Boysun and ElRay Rosaaen and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 27, 2007, from 1:00-7:00 p.m. with a non-formal family service at 5:00 p.m. at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point, Montana. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November, 28, 2007 at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel. Reverend Greg Holler Dinsmor will be officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Wolf Point
