Interment: will follow in the family lot of the Custer County Cemetery in Miles City with full military rites provided by VFW Post #1579.
John JackLyle Hollowell, age 86, of Miles City, MT passed away on Friday, May 29, 2009 at the Veterans Administration Nursing Home in Miles City.
Jack was born on March 1, 1923 the son of John Lee and Ella Mae (Wilson) Hollowell in Hysham, MT. He attended schools in Hysham, graduating from Treasure County High School. Jack enlisted into the United States Marines, serving during the First Wave that went to the Marshall Islands during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge in 1945, he returned to Hysham, MT for a short time before moving to Alaska where he worked construction. Jack moved to Livingston, MT, where he married Mary Helen Jacques in 1948. They later divorced. In 1960, Jack and Donna May Kurtz were married in Miles City where they made their home. In 1963, Jack started Hollowell Construction which he continued to operate until his retirement. He left the business to his son and grandsons to continue operating.
Jack enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting, fishing and working. He liked sports, bowling and dancing. Jack loved being around his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jack also enjoyed spending time with his 600 Cafe family.
Jack is survived by two sons; Dan (Sue) Hollowell of Miles City, MT and Steve (Julia) Hollowell of Hysham, MT, a daughter, Bobi Rae (Bill) Florida of Hillsboro, TX, nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and sister Mary Anne Patterson of Hysham, MT. He is also survived by family friend Cary Veis, whom Jack considered family. Jack was preceded in death by his wife Donna May, parents, two sons, Jimmy Lee and Mark Lee and daughter Suzi, two brothers Gene, Bob, and four sisters; Lela, Martha, Helen, Betty Mae and infant twins.
