John J. (Jack) Fleming, former Livingston MT resident, passed away at age 86 on January 25, 2008 in Moses Lake, WA after a short illness.

Jack was born in Livingston to Grover and Jeanette (Cormier) Fleming on March 27, 1921. He attended St. Marys and ParkCounty High School. At the outbreak of World War II, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was based in England with the 56th Fighter Group. He served as a tail gunner and aerial photographer. His war experience included surviving being shot down over the English Channel. Upon honorable discharge from the Air Corps, Jack returned home to marry his high school sweetheart, Maxine Mjelde, at St. Mary Catholic Church and begin his lifelong career in the retail grocery business. The couple raised two sons in Livingston. Jack owned and operated 6th Street Grocery there until moving to Billings to work for Tidymans Supermarket. He was transferred to Spokane in 1970 where he served as President of Tidymans until his retirement. Jack remained in Spokane after retiring to be close to his fishing buddies. His fishing rod was always close at hand so he was ready to fish at a moment's notice. Jack and his friends had their favorite fishing spots around Spokane, just as he had always had his favorite spot (Big Creek) when he lived in Livingston. When he wasn't fishing, Jack enjoyed watching and feeding the birds and wildlife that traipsed through his large backyard. After suffering a stroke in November of 2007, Jack moved to Moses Lake, WA to be with his son Mike and daughter-in-law Penny who cared for him until his death.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife Maxine in 1979, sister Marie, brother Pat, grandsons Zachary and Zane and daughter-in-law Cheryl Fleming.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Mike andPenny Fleming of Moses Lake, WA. and Jack and Caroline Fleming of Miles City, MT, brothers Jim Fleming and Mike Fleming of Livingston, sister Mary Lou Goligoski of Hamilton, MT, grandchildren Mickey Fleming of Moses Lake, WA., Nikki Fleming of Seattle, WA and Whitney (Mrs. Brent) Smith of Ballentine, MT, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews
