Seraphine Juan Morales (John, Sr.), 58, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2003 at Northeast Montana Health Services in Wolf Point after a long illness.
He was born to Carmen and Gonsalo Morales on January 26, 1945 at Pompeys Pillar, MT where he lived until he moved to Ballantine. He met and married Arden Morales in Billings, MT in 1965. From there they moved to California where three of their seven children were born, Rick, Sr., Sarah, and John, Jr. He worked as a ranch and farm hand. In 1968 he moved with his family to Seattle, WA where the other four of their children were born, Diane, Becky, Sherri, and Jason. While there he worked for Weyerhaeuser Lumber Mill until 1975 when he moved his family to the Poplar and Chelsea communities. John later moved to Billings for a short time to receive his certificate in automotive repair and in 1982 he moved back to Chelsea to pursue his dream of farming and ranching. He was a self-made businessman. In 1993 he re-opened the old Westland station. He pursued his dram of opening a Mexican restaurant, the El Gallo/4Js Casino and Arcade for Kids. He also loved his horses. John and Arden were divorced in 1993 but remained friends. John loved his family and children dearly. He was a dedicated father and grandfather. His father and mother and one brother Lupe Morales preceded him in death.
He is survived by three sons, Rick (Kim) Morales of Poplar, John (Jolin) Morales, Jr. of Wolf Point, and Jason Morales of Wolf Point, four daughters, Sarah (Conrad) Young, Diane Morales, Becky Morales all of Wolf Point, and Sherri (Kenny) Gillies of Fargo, ND. He is also survived by four brothers, Stany (Delta) Morales of Ballantine, Gonsalo (Dori) Morales of Ballantine, Julio (Robin) Morales of Hysham, and James Morales of Billings and seven sisters, Elizabeth Marr of Ballantine, Adaline Halverson of Rockland, CA, Paula Schinnow of Billings, Abby Quanbeck of Huntley, Carmen (Eloy) Medina of Billings, Emily (Gary) Akins of Rockwell, IA, and Linda (Charlie) Logan of Great Falls, and twenty grandchildren, two of whom were special to his heart because he raised them, Arden Morales and Enrique Buddy Morales, Loren, Rick Jr., Paul, Bret, Alison, Nicholas, Conrad, Brandon, Tiger, Sam Jr., Norma, Clay, Abraham, James, Zachariah, Rebecca, Julianne, and Jason, Jr. Our dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, friend will be greatly missed. We know he is in the arms of his savior Jesus Christ to whom he gave his life to in the end.
Visitation will be held beginning at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2003 at the Poplar Cultural Center. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 29, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar. Interment will be in Chelsea Cemetery.
