Funeral Service: Monday, November 2, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Seminole Family Cemetery at Ashland Flats, east of Lame Deer, MT
Burial: will follow at the Seminole Family Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Morning Star Color Guard
John Miles Seminole, Cedar Man, was born Dec. 2, 1932. He went to be with Ma heo on Oct. 28, 2009.
John was the eldest son of Nelson Miles Seminole and Flora RedRobe. He grew up in Ashland and at the top of Broken Jaw in his early years. He was a skilled hunter, fisherman and horseman. Being one of the youngest sundancers of his time due to an accident. Later on became a Sundance, Fasting, and Piercing Priest. Being a traditional man came easy for him. He was part of the Kit Fox Society and the Gourd DanceClan. He joined the Army in 1950 and did 2 tours in the Korean War. All this helped to prepare him for the role of a
Chief among the Northern Cheyenne tribe. John was married to Madeline Addison and had 4 children, Burdick, Johnetta, Suzette, and Stephen. They also raised Terri and Joel, along with many other children, being a house parent for St. Labre. He was a Chief of police for the BIA, and he also worked for Montana Power.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, Nelson Miles Seminole and Flora RedRobe, his sister Josephine Seminole and his brothers Stephan Seminole and David Glenmore.
He is survived by his sisters Lucille Spear and Jennie Parker. His children, Burdick Seminole Sr, Johnetta Seminole, Suzette Seminole, Stephan Seminole, Terri Seminole, and Joel Seminole. Many nephews and nieces, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Sorry we could not mention everyone due to large family. John will be missed by his family, friends, and those he helped mold into Adults and traditionalist.
