Jose Guevara, age 78, of Miles City died at the Miles City Veterans Nursing home on Tuesday, November 13, 2007. He had lived in Miles City for three years having moved here from Havre to be near his daughter and her family
Jose was born in Brownsville, Texas on November 2, 1929. His parents were Narciso and Elenor Guevara. He spent his childhood in Brownsville. In 1951 Jose joined the United States Air Force. He was a career airman, which was a great honor for him. He spent his career traveling the world. His adventures included assignments in Iceland, Spain and points all across the United States. He retired from the Air Force in 1974. In 1954 he met Mary Patricia Maynard at a dance at the Legion Club in Saint Albans, Vermont. They married in November 27, 1954 in Saint Albans. Jose and Pat had five children who they packed around the country eventually settling in Havre, Montana, where he lived for thirty years. After retiring from the Air Force, he sold cars and managed the Elks club in Havre. Those who knew Jose knew him to be an avid sports buff. Jose loved the Cowboys, the Yankees, as well as the Montana Grizzlies. He was an ardent golfer throughout his life and loved to travel around the country, as well as Canada, golfing with his pals. Jose had lots of pals. His recent form of sports entertainment was watching his grandsons in their sports adventures. He will be remembered by all for his early arrivals and early departures. Jose was a member of the Elks, Eagles, VFW, and Air Force Sergeants.
Jose was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Patricia in 2004, his son, Steven Guevara in 2001, and a daughter, Elena Crilly in 2005. His parents and a brother also preceded him in death.
He is survived by Elisa (Don) Westelin of Westminster, California, Myra Due of Bozeman, Montana and Nancy (Bill) Abel of Miles City, Montana. Four grandsons, Kenny, Andrew, Joey, and Adam survive Jose. They will miss their zany grandpa who was their greatest fan. Jose is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 19, 2007 at 3:30 p.m. at the Stevenson and Sons Chapel at 1717 Main Street in Miles City, Montana with burial at the Eastern Montana Veterans Cemetery. A reception will follow at the home of Nancy and Bill Abel at 71 Morningstar Lane. Should friends wish, memorials may be made to the family by visiting www.stevensonandsons.com.
