Joseph Bruce Jelinek age 78, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at his home in San Diego.
He was born November 29,1935 to the late Paul F. and Vivian H. Jelinek in Miles City. He attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Custer County High. After serving in the U.S. Army, he graduated from the University of Montana with a degree in Business Administration. He worked for the Kellogg Company and was based in Seattle and overseas in both Manila and Sydney. He later moved to San Diego, selling real estate for 24 years, before moving to Seattle to be closer to his family. He returned to San Diego in 2005. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jay P. Jelinek of Seattle, and his nephew Rob Reid of Hopkinsville, KY. He is survived by his sister, Lynn J. Reid of Nashville, his sister-in-law Miriam Jelinek of Seattle, 2 nephews and 4 nieces, as well as 7 great-nieces and 3 great-nephews. He is also survived by numerous friends and classmates in California and Montana. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.
A vigil service will be held at Stevenson & Son’s Funeral Home on Friday, April 4, 2014 at 8:00 p.m. A funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery. Following the services a luncheon will be held at the Parlor.

My sincere sympathy to Bruce’s family and his friends. I feel I was so lucky to be able to meet with him in these past few years and renew our friendship. I was able to visit with him a week in San Diego and couple years back and he took me around and showed many exciting places there. He was a true gentleman and will be greatly missed. Prayers are forth coming and may God rest his soul.

Sorry to hear of Bruce’s passing. We made our first communion together back in 43. I remember him as a great classmate. I especially remember asking about him every time I saw his folks out in the yard when I passed by on my mail route.

It was with great sadness that I learned of Bruce’s passing. He was one of those special individuals that one could call a “true friend.” Many special memories of growing up in Miles City…especially the “Frosty Bell,” and his early ventures into what would lead to a very successful lifelong business entrepreneurship. Bruce and I were classmates in grade school, my first big crush. I remember one May Day I hung a small basket of flowers on the door knob of his parents’ home. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. May he rest in peace.
