Joseph Wilson Howard, Hokshi Iya Saba (Black Stone Boy), age 46, of Frazer, Montana, left to be with his Creator (Happy Hunting Grounds). He went to be with the Lord on April 15, 2007 at home in Frazer.
Joseph was born October 6, 1960 in Poplar, MT to Dallas Howard, Sr. and Merle Jackson Clampitt. He grew up in Frazer, attending school and graduating from Kicking Horse JCC in Ronan, MT in 1978 where he received his GED.Joseph entered the US Army and while in service he received numerous awards including Outstanding Achievement, Net Controllers Course February 5, 1982, the Army Commendation Medal December 11, 1980, Vinton Organizational Radio Mechanics January 22, 1982, and Top of the Class and Outstanding Achievement Citation during August 1981 to March 1983. Joseph taught Hunters Safety courses, was on the Frazer School Board for 3 years and Fort Peck Housing Commission Chairman of Frazer Community Counsel. He attended Basic Police Officer Training in Marana, Arizona in 1991 where he was awarded Expert in Pistol (out of 300 shots he hit 288). He was Game warden for Valley County and later was contractor and owner of Nakoda Construction and built numerous houses of the Fort Peck Reservation. Joesph enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing. He loved to play poker machines.
Joseph is survived by his five children, Cory, Christopher, Cole, Shayla, and Riker Howard of Frazer, MT; a brother Dallas (Amy) Howard, two sisters Jody Howard and Frances (David) Big Leggins, and a brother Fletcher (Donna) Clampitt all of Frazer; one grandson Chris Howard Jr.; aunts Sue (Henry) LaRoque, Shari (Joe) Beston, Farrel Strauhs, Bobbi (John) Doney, Rosalie (Phillip) Smoker, and Roxy Jackson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his special nephew, Dallas Howard III, maternal grandparents Wilson and Josephine Jackson and paternal grandparents Joseph and Louise Howard, two aunts Jeri Steele and Pearl Byrd; two uncles Maynard Jackson and Darrel Jackson; and special friend Mary Drummond.
A Wake will be held Wednesday April 18, 2007 with a Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at Frazer Community Hall. A Christian Burial Service is Thursday, April 19, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Frazer Community Hall, with Fr. Steve Zabroki officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Frazer
