Internment: will follow in the Forsyth City Cemetery
Joseph Wheeler, age 81, of Forsyth, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at his home of natural causes.
Joseph was born in Farmington, New Mexico on July 18, 1922 the son of Elmer and Elizabeth (Lettemen) Wheeler. He spent his youth and attended schools in New Mexico. He worked on the family farm until he went to work for El Paso Natural Gas Company, where he operated a jackhammer and dozer for five years. Joseph continued to work around that area until moving to Forsyth in 1969. When he came to Forsyth he began working for Peabody Coal at the Big Sky Mine. While employed at the mine he lived in Colstrip and also Lame Deer for 14 years. Joseph returned to Forsyth in June of 1985 and retired from Peabody Coal in January of 1990.
Joe enjoyed his time with his friends at work and those that he had during his retirement years. He also enjoyed the company of his cats.
Joseph is survived by his sister, Rosa Mae and her husband J.A. Harmon of Aztec, New Mexico, a brother, Clarence Wheeler of Farmington, New Mexico.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2004 at 2:00PM in the Chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Forsyth. Burial will be at the Forsyth City Cemetery. A Luncheon will be served at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Forsyth. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials can be made to a charity of one's choice.
