God seen that Auntie Josie was getting tired, and called her back home on July 31, 2013. Auntie Josie was born on June 22, 1932 to Frank Whiteman, Sr. and Emma Lightning. She was born on the Tongue River Reservation with no doctor present. Josie came from a big family with 10 siblings, which she was the last of the children to pass over to the other side to join her loved ones that have gone on. As a young girl she liked to Indian dance and sing powwow songs with her brothers. Josie was a strong and independent woman who had no children of her own, but loved and cherished her nieces and nephews. Josie married Albert Dresser who was from Wyoming. Josie always talked about going to Wyoming to visit. She had a great sense of humor and a mind of her own, often telling people just what she was thinking. She loved to drive around when she had the chance. Not much kept her from doing what she wanted to do, often walking around town with her walker to make it to the store or to check mail.
She was very fond of her namesake, Rennie Whiteman, together they would drive around and often would talk Rennie into taking her to get her medicine (wine), as she would often call it. Although Josie had a disease of alcohol she would never give up a chance to go for a cruise or spend the night with one of her nieces Nadine, Rennie or Brenda. She also would just come out and tell you bluntly where she wanted to go.
Auntie was a woman of much power, she lived alone but wasn’t afraid to chase away company that would get out of hand or she just plainly didn’t want them there. Her stubbornness and her special smile will truly be missed.
Josie is survived by her nieces and nephews, Claudine Cano, Marvin (Laretha), Eric (Theda), Nadine (Darren), Event Lopez, Tara and Traya Killsnight, Leola, Charlotte, Rogene, Jason Whiteman, Grover Lee, Gary Lightning, Rennie Pena, Phillip Whiteman Jr, Florene, Philex and Philene and EdwinWhiteman, Robert Whiteman Jr, Janice, Anita, Francine, Dana, Valentine and Frank Whiteman III, Arnold and Elmore Brady Jr., Brenda (Eric) Timber, George (Serena) Eagle Jr., Julio (Misty) Brady, Leroy Whiteman and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
We would like to thank Public Health Nurses, Martha Garcia, Morena Mitchell & Eddie Whitedirt for their services. The family would also like to thank IHS, for many years of service with Auntie Josie (even though she would often chase them away or fight with them). Josie taught us that no matter what goes on around you, you have to fight to survive and just to keep on going. We love you Auntie and no one can take your place, you were one tough cookie to the end. Journey on to the other side, where we know there is no more sickness or sadness, you’re loved ones our waiting.
She had friends like Enoch Limberhand, Dayton & Josie American Horse that would spend extra time with her doing the special things she liked to do. She also had Andrew Quiroz her special grandson checking on her and driving her around.

To the Whiteman family,
My deepest condolences over the loss of Josie. I pray for friends to comfort you, faith to uphold you, and loving memories to heal your heart. Never forget that you can lean on your Heavenly Father for support. He is a comforter of all those who mourn. In His Word the Bible, He tells us that through His Son Christ Jesus our loved ones will one day awake from their restful sleep to enjoy life in paradise. John 11:11; John 6:40; Revelation 21:3,4. Although this does not take away the pain that is felt today, in time may it comfort you to know that God loves you and that death is not the end. Heartfelt prayers of peace are with you. Galatians 1:3.

I miss Josie already, she was a good person, I enjoyed our conversations, shopping for groc., she always made sure I got her pigs feet and ice cream. Josie had a good sense of humor and when she laughed she laughed. Condolences to all of you…

I will forever miss Josie and her cute little laugh, but I know that she’s free to go wherever she wants and won’t have to worry about anything. She’s with her family now, my sympathies to the Whiteman families.

My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Josie Whiteman Dresser – I am sorry to hear of your loss. May you find comfort in many wonderful memories and beautiful pictures of Mrs. Dresser at this difficult time. It was the Creator’s purpose that mankind live in perfect conditions, with perfect health, not to suffer and die. God has promised that a time will come when no one will say “I am sick” (Isaiah 33:24). The Bible gives us hope that soon God will end all suffering, pain, and death. (Revelation 21:4) The promise of Paradise, the perfect conditions God originally intended for mankind in the Garden of Eden will be fulfilled including God’s “will being done as in Heaven also upon Earth“ (Matt 6:9, 10). It is hoped that you are comforted by the promises in the Bible. (John 17:3).
