Joy A. Rogge age 84, of Broadus Mt, passed away on August 25, 2015, surrounded by his family at the Powder River Manor.
Joy was born on February 2, 1931 in Broadus Mt, to John Rogge Sr. and Helen Bultmeier Rogge in their one room sod house, the 11th and youngest of the Rogge family. Joy attended grade school about a mile northwest of their home at Sand Creek. He finished grade school in town and graduated from Broadus High School in 1949. He joined the service in 1950 and was inducted into the Army on his birthday. He became a heavy equipment operator for the Army Corp of Engineers, attached to the Air Force. After his training he spent one year in Korea building air strips and was honorably discharged in 1952. Joy married Linda (Trucano) on August 9, 1953 in St. David’s Catholic Church in Broadus. In 1961 Joy started working for the Montana Highway Department, and retired in 1991. Through this time he also worked at the family ranch. Joy’s retirement hobby was the crafting of wooden toys and birdhouses for family and friends. He and Linda enjoyed feeding and watching the birds in their backyard, a pastime Joy continued after his move to the Manor. He was loved by most who knew him for his unrelenting sense of humor. Joy was rarely without a smile, loved a good practical joke, and was known as the “teasin’ grandpa”.
Joy is survived by his wife Linda, and their six children, Jody (Richard) O’Leary, Lyle (Jeanne) Rogge, Don (RaeVonne) Rogge, Bruce Rogge, LeAnne (Art) Viall and Brent (Jen) Rogge; daughter-in-law Jeanette Rogge, his grandchildren: Ryan, Kyle, Caitlin, Megan, Adam, Hailey, Morgan, Hannah, Ethan, Lena, Molly, Sam, Mackenzie, Allexa, Samantha and Austin, great niece Cherise Gruber, who considered him to be a grandfather, great grandchildren Jalyn, Jace, Ty, Koby, Urijah, and Justice; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Joy was preceded in death by his parents John and Helen Rogge, his ten brothers and sisters, Herman, Adolph, Otto, John Jr., Andy, Paul, Meta, Betty, Ruthie and Helen.

Your family is in our prayers. Not very long ago when my dad was in the nursing home my granddaughter was there with me and he was in his wheelchair in the middle of the doorway and he teased her and would not let her through. You seen the smile and the twinkle in his eye and then he moved and let her through and I watched him chuckle to himself. We all will miss that special man.

At least his suffering is ended. Joy was a good friend, and kind to a kid just breaking into the labor force. We worked together at Miles and Ulmers shortly after he was discharged and newly married. I was 15 and tried to be useful to all, which maybe impressed Joy. He was a jolly guy to be around and a friend there after. May he rest in peace.
