Judith (Griffith) Freestad was welcomed into the loving arms of the Lord her Savior on October 23,2010 after a long and valiant fight against ovarian cancer.
Judy was the oldest of the seven children of Homer and Mary Griffith of Harlowton, MT. In her younger years, she loved to play and help with the farm animals (-especially kittens, puppies and bum lambs), baby sit her younger siblings, and bake. She baked delicious cinnamon rolls and other desserts such as custard and chocolate chip cookies which were very much appreciated by the rest of the family.
She graduated from Harlowton High School in 1968 and then attended Rocky Mountain College in Billings where she made many lifelong friends. She graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and went on to teach in Rosebud, Volberg, and Bell Creek Schools.
She fell in love with David Freestad of Colstrip and they were united in marriage in 1982. Their son, Henry Homer David Freestad, was born on October 29, 1983 and a daughter, Megan Elizabeth was born August 26, 1985. Judy's husband, David, was killed in a tragic farm accident on March 1992 which left Judy to raise their children alone. Judy devoted her whole life to raising and nurturing Megan and Hank. She substitute taught at Colstrip for many years and remained very active in her church. She continued to love to cook and can vegetables. She also spent many hours cross-stitching crib quilts for baby grandnieces and grandnephews as they arrived.
She is survived by her mother, Mary Griffith of Harlowton, her son Hank and daughter Megan of Miles City, sisters: Janet(Keith) Hill, Atha (Clint) Stagner, Lorna (Bill) Theriault all of Harlowton and Joan Griffith of Elko, Nevada and brothers: Robert (Emily) of Moorcroft, Wyoming and Sam Griffith of Harlowton and four nephews and two nieces.
We will miss your kind and loving ways, Judy. May you find everlasting joy and peace in the arms of the Lord. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, October 27, at the Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will be held in Harlowton, Montana.
