In Memory Of

Judy Thornock, age 75, of Broadus

May 6, 1946 – March 1, 2022

Judy Thornock, age 75 of Broadus, left this earth Tuesday March 1, 2022, where she resided at the Powder River Manor for the past year.

Judy was born on May 6, 1946 in Miles City, MT. She was the first born of three children to Bill and Velna Traub. She attended all of her school years in Powder River County. In 1963 she married Gary Hulford and was blessed with four children Cindy, Marty, Joe and Teri. They spent their married life living throughout Montana, Wyoming, and California following Gary’s career in the oilfield.

In 1984 she met and married Carl Thornock. They resided in Nye, MT as Carl worked at Stillwater Mining Co. In 1999 they returned to Broadus where Judy pursued her lifelong dream and opened her ceramic business. Oh how she enjoyed her ceramics! And loved it when anyone took interest and participated. She found such joy in learning and teaching the many different techniques of the artistry. She especially loved crafting handmade porcelain dolls. She, as well as her students, won many awards over the years, which made her very proud.

Carl passed away in 2007 but it wasn’t until 2010 that she went to work at the Powder River Manor and later became the director of housekeeping. She took pride in her work there and in the fact that she made a difference.

Judy especially loved spending time with aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Not only will she be remembered for her piano playing, being an excellent cook, having an eye for decorating, and for being a competitive card player at Hand in Foot, but how she always matched from her earrings to her shoes!

Judy is preceded in death by her parents Bill and Velna, the love of her life Carl and her youngest son Joseph Elden Hulford.

Judy is survived by brother, Bob (Carolyn) Traub, sister Nancy (Ernie) Stillman, her two daughters, Cindy (Scott) Parrish, and Teri Hulford, one son Marty Hulford, 7 grandchildren, Jordan (Collin) Radakovich, Brandon Parrish, Jenna Parrish, Ben Hulford, Alise Hulford, Elden Hulford, Desirae (Missy) Hulford, 8 great-grandchildren, Caylen Jankowski, Ava Radakovich, Charlie Radakovich, Julia Parrish, Lucas Parrish, Danika, Ekko, and Lumen Hulford.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, March 3, 2022 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Broadus.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. David’s Catholic Church in Broadus with a Rosary being held prior to the Mass at 10:15 a.m.  Interment will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. So sorry to hear of Judy’s passing. I have some fond memories of better time with her. A poodle skirt comes to mind and walking through water puddles after a hail storm.
She is no longer suffering and truly at peace.
Hugs to you kids. Take care of each other.

I am so shocked to hear of Judy passing. We spent many hours working on ceramics and then onto porcelain dollmaking.. we had so many good times, mostly full of laughter! We would try anything we set our minds to. My best memory was her wanting to get that darn fireplace out of her house. I spent the weekend and with hammers in hand it came out. Even patched the ceiling and painted the walls! I will miss her. Now she is with her Carl.

My condolences to all of Judy’s family.
My husband and I are so sorry to hear of the passing of our good friend Judy. Our parents were good friends, and Judy and I grew up together. Judy and I got into a lot of trouble together, but we had lots of fun. Our parents spent many hours together playing cards and music. My parents played at dances in their younger years and had music in common with Judy’s parents. My dad Junior played the accordion, while my mom Betty the guitar and accordion at dances in those early years, loving the old Country music as Bill and Velna did since they were both tremendous musicians.

Cindy, Nancy, Bob and all the families of Judy

My thoughts and prayers are with each of you in the loss of a nice woman. Judy was a strong and independent woman and wasn’t afraid to tell you how it was. Early memories were of Judy, Nancy and Velma attending mass at our church and I think they were one of the only few woman who wore head coverings. They all were very stylish and classy. Later on when I bartended I got to hear some great stories. Judy even let us drive around one late night in her convertable to the wee hours of the morning. She was always so proud of her children and she and Carl were a good mix. Hold on to each of your memories but know she is rejoicing with all her friends and family in the heavenly kingdom. Prayers for all of you.

    To all of Judy’s family,
I was so very so sorry to hear that she had passed away. Sitting here remembering all our fun times; out at “the ranch” our place on Bay Horse and staying at Uncle Bill and Aunt Velma’s especially during Bible school; Algebra class (both hated that class). I loved her rendition of “The Wayward Wind” singing and playing the piano! She was so full of laughter and did enjoy the good times! Remembering the time she and Nancy came to the ranch and we were all going to a dance at Moorhead; it was during a spring rain and we were waiting in the car, praying the rosary; hoping that we would be able to go. I think we were fortunate that Dad and Mom loved to dance too! Rest In Peace, dear cousin; we will laugh and dance again! Love, hugs, and prayers!
