KarlHinther, age 85 of Jordan, Montana, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at the Garfield County Health Center in Jordan.
Karl was born in Jordan, Montana on April 9, 1919, the son of John Henry and Maria T. (Koch) Hinther. He grew up in the Jordan area and entered the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) in his junior year of high school. Later he entered the U.S. Army serving as Sergeant in the European theatre during World War II. Following Karls honorable discharge, he returned to Jordan in 1945. Karl married Evelyn Lehner on November 11, 1942 in Miles City, Montana. Karl worked for the county for a short time on the road crew and then purchased a truck and began a freight business hauling local commodities. In 1949, he secured a permit and hauled freight from Billings to Jordan. He operated and operated a feed store at the same time also. In 1952, Karl sold his trucks and took over the operation of the new Exxon gas station and ran a bulk gas business until 1972. In 1963, Karl purchased school busses to provide bus service to the Jordan Elementary and the Garfield County High schools. He ran the bus services until 1986, when he sold them to Glen Gallinger.
He and Evelyn established the concession at the Hell Creek Marina in 1971, building a store and rental cabins. He retired in 1990 after which he was able to spend more time fishing and also devote more time to his woodworking. He and Evelyn also enjoyed traveling.
Karl is survived by his daughters, Anita and her husband Joe Twitchell of Mountain Home, ID, Noreen and her husband Mike McKeever of Jordan, MT, his son Ron Hinther and his wife Denise of Circle, MT, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; Joel Twitchell and his children Bailey and Riley all of Ely, NV, AaronTwitchell of Austin, TX, Etoile and her husband Clint Benge of Hailey, ID, ToddMcKeever and his wife Annie and their daughterAva, all of Laurel, MT, Angela Belus and her children Mitchell and Abby all of Jordan, MT, JasonMcKeever of Fargo, ND, Courtney Hinther and her daughter Kayla of Bakersfield, CA, and Cara and her husband Robert Vannattan of Bridger, MT, a brother,Hilmer Hinther and his wife Irene of Billings, MT; three sisters: Leonora Brumbelow of Jacksonville, TX; Hulda Grant of Malta, MT; and Gertrude Hinther of Glasgow, MT;two sisters-in-law, Martha Hinther of Jordan, MT and Esther Hinther of Lewistown, MT; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, his parents, an infant brother, Alexander, four brothers: Emanuel, Fred, August, and Bill, and a sister, Rosie.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Garfield County Health Center, the St. Johns Lutheran Church, the V.F.W. or to the charity of one's choice.
