Kay was born in Le Mars, Iowa on September 25, 1941 to Melvin (Watermelvin) and Bertha (Bert) Hathaway. She was the oldest of 4 children. She spent her childhood years in Glendive, MT and Denver, CO before moving to Miles City at the age of 12. There she attended Sacred Heart school.
After graduation, she went on to attend cosmetology school starting in Billings, MT and finishing in Miles City. She was the first to graduate from June’s Beauty School. Shortly after that she married the love of her life Jack “Jackie” Fiechtner. They went on to have 4 children of their own Brenda, Melanie, Mark, and David. Kay loved her children with all of her heart and was truly devoted to her family. She enjoyed raising her children, being a hairdresser, and spending time with family and friends of whom included Ann and Bill Stegall, Patty, Sharon, Helen, and many others.
Over the years Kay had many fun times at Spotted Eagle, playing the machines (crazy cat lady), attending her kids and grandkids’ sporting events, planting flowers, doing crafts/ceramics/sewing, and adding to her Elvis collection. She was heartbroken when Elvis passed away. She also enjoyed watching her grandkids, taking naps, and a good cup of coffee. She was a devout Catholic and her love for God carried her through her final days.
Kay mourned the loss of her son Mark in November of 1985. She is now smiling down on us from heaven with Mark, her parents, and other loved ones.
Kay is survived by her children Brenda (Cliff), Melanie (Buddy), David (Jody); her grandchildren Addie (Paul), Stephanie, Garrett, Walker, Carson, Kylie, Reid, Trace; and her great grandchildren Harper, Kroy, and Sloane Kay. She is also survived by her siblings Jim Hathaway, Ron (Ginny) Hathaway, and Mary Anne Hathaway. Her extended family includes Heather Johnston, Ryan Oddy, Jason Oddy, Chelsea Oddy and children, and special friends Linda Kay O’Neill, Lucetta Wolfe, Kay Weischedel, Darla Parker, Vida Fischer, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and uncle.
Kay is preceded in death by Melvin and Bertha Hathaway, her son Mark, nephew Scott Hathaway, Grandson Colton Florey, Sister-in-law and friend Diane Hathaway, and in laws Lyle and Daphine Fiechtner.
A special heartfelt thank you goes out to Hearts and Homes assisted living as well as all of the individuals in Hospice care and Lincare.
