Kathleen Kay Elizabeth Bensel Lee, age 87, of Miles City passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2005 at the Holy Rosary Extended Care in Miles City.
Kay was born on December 19, 1917 in Miles City, Montana, the daughter of Gustav A. and Florence (Pye) Bensel. She attended schools in Miles City, graduating from Custer County High School in 1935. After graduation, she began working for Montana Dakota Utilities. She married Don B. Lee on January 17, 1942. She spent 18 months in Waco, Texas with her husband Don until he was shipped overseas. She and her daughter Julie then came back to Miles City on the train. After Don was discharged from the service, he came back to Miles City where they spent the rest of their lives.
After her children were in school, Kay started working again as a secretary. She worked in Miles City her entire life, retiring from Miles Community College where she was the assistant registrar for twenty years. She retired in 1993, at 75 years of age. Kay loved to garden and work in her yard and always had a wide variety of flowers. She liked to read and work crossword puzzles and always enjoyed a good cup of hot tea. Kay loved to ice skate in her younger days and enjoyed watching it on television in her later years. She also loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Kay was very active in the Miles City Womens Club and was currently the Treasurer. She volunteered monthly at the Custer County Art Museum and recently became a member of the Red Hat Society. She was also a local historian.
Kay is survived by her daughter Julie Jordan of North of Miles City, MT; her son Don (Linda) Lee of Shelby, MT; her brother Carl Bensel and her sister-in-law, Virginia Grogan both of Miles City, MT; her grandchildren: Leah (Grant) Miller and their children: Kylee (John) and Kurt; Don (Connie) Jordan and their son Michael; Art (Mary) Jordan and their children Gabe, Alicia, Alex, and Brendan; Rob Lee; Brian (Kai) Lee and David Lee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don, an infant daughter Gena Kay, and her brother Rob.
