Kathy went into the arms of the Lord while surrounded by her loved ones on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, after losing her battle with lung cancer.
She was born on September 9, 1957, to William E. and Jean Berklund in Cottonwood, Idaho. She was 8 of 10 siblings. Her fond early memories were of family trips and holidays with her extended family members. The Berklund family owned and operated many lumber mills in that area. Busy, hardworking and dedicated were distinctive traits Kathy exuded all of her life.
Kathy, an adventurous and rebellious spirit, fled home and parental life in 1974 at the age of 17. This is when she met her future husband Kenny Yother of Butte, MT. They settled in Butte and later in Miles City. Together they welcomed daughters Bridget in 1975, Jenn in 1977 and the twins, Katie and Krisie in 1982. Ken and Kathy divorced in 1989. In 1993 Kathy completed a degree at Miles Community College. She enjoyed her work as a law secretary. Kathy lived in the light of the Lord and was steadfast in her spiritual and religious beliefs. She enjoyed the outdoors and her hobbies. She was a master with a crochet hook, loved reading, especially her Bible, listening to music, dancing and writing. Kathy lived a life of gratitude and simple pleasures. She enjoyed her family and cherished her daughters and grandchildren, especially her grandson Dain.
Kathy is survived by her partner of 17 years, Dan Fabert of Miles City, MT; three daughters: Jennifer Markov, Katie Champion of Bozeman, MT, Krisie Batra of Portland, OR; son-in-law, Nik Batra, also Portland; step-son, Christopher Fabert of Miles City, MT; two grandsons, Dain Yother of Miles City, MT and Cagejen Swift of Billings, MT; a great-granddaughter, Satorii Santos of Salem, OR; and her siblings, Patsy Sweet of St. Maries, ID, Bob Berklund of Marrieta, CA, Betty Ballou of Billings, MT, Olga Bashaw of Deer Park, WA, Mike Berklund of Seattle, WA; and her adored cat, Betty.
She is preceded in death and now with, her parents; siblings: William C. “Billy” Berklund, Connie Forsman, Baby Brother (who died shortly after birth in 1954), Henry Berklund; and daughter, Bridget Christine.

Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. To honor Kathy’s wishes, please come as you are for our casual gathering to celebrate her, and join us for coffee and desert to follow. Private inurnment will take place after at Custer County Cemetery in Miles City.
