Katie Gierke, age 51, of Miles City passed away after a long courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at her home surrounded by her family.
Katie was born in Sidney, Montana on October 4, 1953, the daughter of Grant and Alta May (Shaw)Greiman. She grew up on a ranch north of Glendive, attending schools in Glendive, Montana and graduating from Dawson County High School in 1971. Following graduation, she attended the University of Minnesota where she received a Medical Technologist degree in 1975. She worked as a medical technologist in upstate New York, Sidney, Lewistown, Terry, and in Miles City at the Garberson Clinic and the VA Hospital. She worked as a race horse trainer for her parents for several years. She was working as a seismographer for Grant Geophysical when she met her husband to be, Terry Gierke. They were married on August 8, 1981 in Miles City, Montana. They continued to seismograph until 1983, when they moved back to Miles City. Katie and Terry have remained in Miles City where Katie has most recently worked as a crop adjuster. Their sons, Casey andCoby were born in 1982 & 1983 in Miles City. Katie loved her boys, her husband and her family more than anything. She also loved the ocean, playing pool, traveling, antiques, a good bargain, being with friends, her dog Roscoe, the outdoors, a lovely sunset, Woodruff Park, all flowers, and a cold beer.
Katie is survived by her husband TerryGierke of Miles City, MT; two sons: Casey GrantGierke of Missoula, MT and Coby Robert Gierke of Portland, OR; her father, GrantGreiman of Glendive, MT; three sisters: AnnieFreistone and her husband Ron of Glendive, MT; KarenRilley and her husband Bob of Stanford, MT; and Sandy Schwartz and her husband Tim of San Francisco, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Katie is also survived by her husband's extended family and her many friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
A memorial has been set up in Katie's children's names to be used for their college education. Memorials may be sent to the Gierke Family, 1703 N. Jordan, Miles City, MT 59301.
