Katie Rittal, 87, passed away on Monday, February 16, at the Prairie Community Nursing Home in Terry, Montana.

Katie was born in Marsh, MT on February 22, 1921 to John and Katherina (Voegele) Kaul. Her family included fourteen brothers and sisters. On October 11, 1938 she was united in marriage to George Rittal, a marriage that lasted 70 years. They had a double wedding with her sister Lydia Gaub and Gydean Ulrick. Soon after they were married George went to work on the Fort Peck Dam where they bought a home in McCone City. In October 1939 they moved to Fallon and built their home in which they lived for 66 years.

Mom was a great cook and we always had a lot of good German food such as strudel, knipfla and kuchen. She could make leftovers taste like she had cooked for hours and always made sure they were served in nice dishes. She took great pride in keeping an immaculate yard with lots of flowers and received many compliments. The most important part of her life was her love for the Lord and her church. Katie and George became members of the Fallon Evangelical Church two years after they were married and remained faithful members throughout their lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, half brothers John and Fred Kaul, August, Edwin and Dave Gaub, half - sisters Caroline Kaul, Pauline Miller, Maggie Kalmback, Marie Siegle, Lydia Ulrich, Hilda Oliver, Carrie Vegele, and sister Martha Kaul.

She is survived by her husband George, daughter Annabelle Rittal of Billings, and three sons, Jerroll (Barb), Tim (Deanna) of Terry, Larry Dean (Louise) of Glendive, and a brother Richard (Mabel) Kaul of Glendive. She has nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Terry. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 20, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Fallon Evangelical Church of North America. Interment will follow in the Prairie County Cemetery in Terry, Montana.
