Kay Ellen Rexford entered eternal rest on December 20, 2025, at 09:45am at the Rosebud Health Care Center in Forsyth Montana. She was born on June 24, 1940, in Scranton North Dakota, her family relocated from Scranton to the Hysham Montana area in the early 1950’s, where she met her late husband Donald Rexford and married on January 3, 1957. They were married for 59 years and remained in the Hysham area for most of their lives except for a brief period when they resided in Broadus so they could be near their grandchildren.
Kay held several jobs throughout her career, the latest being Treasure County Clerk and Recorder of which her hard work and determination got her elected to office several years running. She also assisted her husband and family in their Rest Area maintenance contract just outside of Hysham. Her family held that contract for many years until shortly after her husband’s passing in May 2016. Early in her career Kay was the custodian for the Treasure County Courthouse assisted by her family.
Kay loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a very caring attitude throughout her entire life and never turned any child in need away. No child went hungry on her watch; she shared her home with many family members and friends over the years and her kindness was greatly appreciated by them all. Her hard work ethic was instilled in all her children and grandchildren, that was reflected in their later years; she was very proud of her family.
Kay’s hobbies included crocheting, knitting, sewing, and she loved to play cards. The “Rexford Rules” made it difficult for anyone else to win a game. Her favorite card games were pinnacle and hand & foot. She and Don loved their little shiatsu dogs and treated them as family.
Kay is preceded in death by her father Frank Farber and mother Viola (Farber) Ledford, husband Donald Rexford, daughter Donnette Rexford, grandson Taylor (TJ) Rexford, her brother Wayne Farber, sisters Betty Butts and Jane Ritter.
Kay is survived by her son Barry Rexford (League City, TX), daughter Susan Keller (husband Dennis Keller)(Bismarck, ND), grandson Cody Danielson (wife Gracie)(Tulsa, OK) granddaughter Kati Danielson (Maricopa, AZ), great grandsons Sam Danielson and Franklin Danielson and great granddaughter Eloise Danielson, her sisters Janette Duffy (Miles City, MT), Sandy Farber (Miles City, MT) and brother Glenn Farber (California).
Graveside services or Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

Susan and family, I am sorry to hear about mom. She was awesome. I remember her always calling all of girls dingy bitches when we were in high school and hung out at your families house.. LOL Also when Kay was running for an official capacity at the court house (treasurer or clerk of court, Can’t remember which) you (susan) and I drove up and down the streets of Hysham hollering “Vote for Kay Rexford. Funny thing is you mom won!!!. We had alot of good times. I will alway remember your mom. Great lady that spoke her piece. My thoughts and prayers are with youand your families.
