In Memory Of

Kay Wolff, age 82, of Circle

September 27, 1942 – January 18, 2025

Kay Marie Wolff was born on September 27, 1942, in Jordan, Montana, the first daughter of Daniel and Gertrude Hinnaland and the first sister to Todd and Bob. She would later be joined by brother Jack and sisters Dana, Jill and Mari. Kay was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on January 18, 2025, in Glendive, Montana surrounded by her children.

Kay married Robert Johnson in December 1960. To this union were born four children: Rick (March 1962) in Wyoming, Jackie (February 1964) in Jordan and Mike and Marlene (January 1965) in Circle. She married Aldo Wolff in the 1970’s. Both husbands preceded her in death.

Kay worked for McCone County, but she followed her dream when she purchased the Tasty Freeze in 1995. It transitioned to Kay’s Family Dining, and she created Kay & 4 J’s Catering. Her passion was cooking. Even after selling the restaurant, she continued preparing meals for the Senior Center. She was a hard worker and would do anything for anybody. Kay always loved horses and was proud that she was allowed to work beside the guys. She enjoyed riding on wagon trains with family and friends new and old. She loved animals big and small. Even in her later years, she had a menagerie of animals around her. Though she lived other places in her life, she always returned to the one place she knew and loved.

Kay is survived by her children Rick (Jeanette), Jackie (Grant), Mike (Molly), and Marlene (Dee). She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and two sisters. She was predeceased by her parents, three brothers, one sister, a daughter-in-law, and two nephews. “I’ll be riding shotgun with you!” Love you mom – mercy!

    Rick, Jackie, Mike & Marlene,
I don’t remember a time when your mom and your family were not involved in our lives. From my mom babysitting for your mom, to my mom working for your mom at the courthouse to stopping at Kay’s (Tastee Freeze) to check out what yummy food she was serving, or just to visit and catch up on all the latest happenings in town. Kay was such a great friend to my mom through all these years and she will be greatly missed. I’m so very grateful that I was able to visit with her just before Christmas. Your Mom was one of a kind and tough as nails, but she also had the kindest heart. Rejoice in the fact that she is at peace in the loving arms of her Lord and probably cooking up a storm on the biggest cattle drive heavens ever seen, God bless you all.
    Cheri

Kay was a devoted mother and dedicated community worker. Her home-cooked meals and carmel rolls were enjoyed and appreciated by many. No task seemed too big for her, be it class reunions or individual senior meals.
She took time to cheer others and make each them feel special. Thank you, Kay. Rest in peace.
